Tips and tricks for newbies?

Tips and tricks for newbies? - 06/23/15 03:04 PM

Ok guys and gals, I've bass fished my whole life in Virginia. I remember as a kid drowning some minnows with a cane pole with my old man and burning the crappie up but we always fished for em in February on the rivers. Never did much jigging. I'm fairly new to Texas lakes and crappie. I live about a half mile from lake lavon and after reading about a hundred posts on here I've got the itch. I've got the boat and the electronics and some free weekends.

Any tips or tricks for finding and catching them during the summer? What do I look for? Any ideas on jigs, rigs etc.? I figured I'd ask the experts before I venture out into the unknown and get discouraged.

Shade, brush, vertical structure. Also, learn about the thermocline. Some people fish way too deep during the summer.
