All I can say is WOW!!!

I really thought I knew my HDS units pretty well. I could find brush piles, I could tell which ones hold fish, I could mark and find waypoints, I could scan and spot fish on bridge pilings, and I've been known to put a limit in the boat with it. So yea, I thought I had my units dialed in pretty good...

BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

I started saving up after the CAT Extravaganza in February and booked a trip with Slade Dougherty on Lake Fork for today. Folks, let me tell you, this guy knows his stuff!
I can't imagine there's anyone around that knows electronics better than Slade.
My units are SO dialed in now, that I can see things I didn't even know we're possible! The only negative, is now I realize how much I've been missing the first few years I had these units.
You could book a half dozen regular guide trips, and not gain the amount of knowledge I gained in 3 hours today.

If you have ever considered an electronics trip with Slade, DO IT!
I can attest and assure you that it is well worth it!

I've heard nothing but good things about Slade. He even mentioned he could probably help me with my antique Eagle 480 elite and Lowrance 5X dsi. I'm not interested in side scan units nor brush pile fishing that much. I would be more interested in maxing my units for ledge fishing and fishing rocks. I may book a trip late this fall or early winter. It's hard making myself drive over to Fork.


BTW, Did you catch any of the fish that you saw?

Actually, the deep water structure is one of the things he helped me with the most. And he can maximize ANY unit you've got! He tweaked the X5 in my dash, and I could tell the difference even with it. By the way, he's a super nice guy too. He'll be honest with you. If he didn't think he could help you, he would tell you.
I'm a tightwad, and I still say its more than worth it.

I went out with Slade in March, and he dialed mine in as well! He really knows his stuff! I couldn't be more pleased!!

Do you pull a rod out and try to catch any fish you think you may be seeing? I'll probably make a little fishing vacation/trip to Fork this fall/winter.

Be sure you make a note of the settings on your unit, in case "Murphy's Law" kicks in, and you need to adjust your unit to 'Slade's' settings.

Why have expensive electronics and NOT get the full benefits out of it

We found stuff underwater right out from his house that he hadn't seen before! It appeared to be a brick or stone foundation that used to be under the front porch of an old house and there was a chain link fence surrounding the yard.

We did that a couple of times, but I didn't need to catch any to know they were there. lol!
It's pretty obvious when good electronics are dialed in. I was already familiar enough with it to know what I was looking at.

I just purchased a HDS7 gen 3 with my boat. How do I get ahold of Slade?

I went out with him several months ago and learned a ton. Got the units all dialed in. Unfortunately, he teaches so much that I haven't been able to retain it all. I keep remembering something that he told me every few trips that I go out. I am thinking about going back for a second round with him because now I am much more familiar with them and will grasp more of what he has to say the next time.

He isn't very expensive and he doesn't rush the trip. Well worth the money.

I agree with everything SLABEXPRESS said. I went out with Slade in April & he not only dialed in my Humminbird 998, but also my Lowrance 522 on the front of the boat. I can't tell you how many times I said WOW after that trip. Well worth saving your pennies & doing this!
