Quick afternoon trip paid off - 04/23/15 02:47 AM
Had the itch and made my mind up to go right after school today. I'm chompin at the bit 5 minutes before school lets out, and the dang transportation director calls me in a pinch. He needed me to drive a bus route. I did him a favor and drove it, but I was still determined to go after the route. Anyway, got hooked up and left house around 4:15pm.
Took the quick option to a small local lake. Storms weren't in our area yet, so the weather was perfect!
I didn't have high expectations because no one had been catching any the past month on that lake, but it beats every other option.
I was fishing by 5 and got a relaxing 2 hours of fishing in. Started and stayed on brush and stumps in 8-10' with a 1/8oz chart/black JigUm jig. First fish was my biggest, but the bite was slow. They seemed to want it moving a little more, so I switched to a Road Runner head and a blue/green joker tail. That was the ticket!
Caught about 25-30 fish and kept about 8 biguns...just enough.
Biggest was right at 2lbs and probably had 3 more over 1.5lbs. All post spawn.
Got home, got boat put up, got fish cleaned, and then it poured rain. Just about a perfect day!
