It was exactly two years ago this week that Matt, Dennis, Larry and I made the voyage to Mecca....ok, Grenada. I sure hope you guys have better weather than we did. Couldn't even get on the water the first two days and then our guide refused to take us out or give us out money back! Worst trip of my life.
So, sure hope you guys have a great trip and send us lots of pics of all the 3+lb crappie! I'll even bet old Beltonbanger Bill will mount them for you?

I grew up near there and used to fish Grenada lake all the time. I spent many Saturdays on the backwaters and the river that feeds into the lake near Big Creek. And I've pulled my share of corked jigs across the spillway too. I never realized that the lake was such a big deal for crappie, but I did always catch them there.

Re: Grenada Mississippi - 03/26/15 02:01 AM
Is spider rigging about the only way to go out there? Just drifting or using the trolling motor?
Posted By: fishin_farmer
Re: Grenada Mississippi - 03/26/15 02:11 AM
Yes it is by far the best way to fish this lake. This lake is like no other because the fish don't relate to structure. It is like they are just roaming over the flats. Therefore you cover more water by spider rigging. Some people use drift socks and go with the wind and others use their trolling motors and go against the wind.
How's Jaydon and Rhonda doing? Have they broke their PB yet?
Nice fish Chris, you too Chris.
Farmer it's time for you to bust loose and I'm not talk about your dance moves.

I'm saving my luck till Friday I hope. Chris and I had a really tough day today. It's a beating fishing daylight to dark and catching 15 small fish. That's a long time between bites. The upside is we eleminated a lot of water today. Lol

Re: Grenada Mississippi - 03/26/15 03:01 AM
Live it up bud...you will find them and like you said, you eliminated a bunch of water. Keep developing that pattern and make Texas proud...even from an Okie lol

Kirk Jaydon said they had close to 16lbs yesterday. No monsters just a bunch of 2 to 2.36 I believe. Other than yesterday we are all still struggling as far as big fish

Wouldn't this be loaded in Texas. Sitting in 4 ft and water temp 64.
Not in Grenada move 100 yards away and you might catch one. Leaves you shaking your head!!! Here is the only fish we caught by a tree and the only male we have caught that had any color to it. My biggest one so far I hope at 2.00 even but good for a male

Re: Grenada Mississippi - 03/26/15 09:37 PM
wow nice fish, looks like fun but not too much of a pattern, just a bunch of boats drifting around the lake hoping to land over some big fish that want the bait/
are you mostly picking up single fish? can you see them on side imaging? seems like you could spot those whoppers .

My my my, Grenada got its paddle out and gave Chris and I a good tail whoopin today. Wind was tough and we were only able to weigh in 3 fish. Embarrassing.... On a great note Mofish (Chris Scott) and Wscott ( willy Scott) are sitting in 6th with 16.66lbs and Jaydon and Rhonda are sitting in 15th with 15.53. There were 3. 18+ lb stringers and 2. 17lb stringers weighed in. Big fish so far is 3.36

Re: Grenada Mississippi - 03/29/15 02:22 PM
Thanks for all the kudos and kind words fellas. After a tough week of pre-fishing Willie and I were simply hoping to catch 7 fish each day, never imagined finishing in the top 10. Grenada is a tough lake and with the water level near summer pool it's a complete different fishery with unlimited amount of 1.5' to 3' of water. Thursday evening a cold front came through dropping the temperature to 38 degrees Friday morning with a 15 mph north wind and Saturday morning it was 34 degrees with a NE wind getting up to 15 mph, which makes spider rigging very difficult. And to top it off, Saturday morning the water temperature dropped 8 to 10 degrees in the area we were fishing. It actually snowed for about 15 minutes Saturday afternoon, unbelievable.
It was a tough week of fishing that turned out better then we could have ever hoped. Again, thanks for all the kind words.

Way to go everyone!! Congrats to all of you!
You are all top fisherman in my book! I learn a lot from guys like you!
Now if I can get away from work long enough to fish...
Don't let them Scott boys fool you!
They are that GOOD!
What they did is,
on unknown waters, in a different state, figured out and put together a pattern that beat all but 7 teams! Wow!
They kicked some arse!
You know they are thinking, how did those boys from Texas kick our butt, on our home lake!
Y'all done good.
Congrats to all the Crappie Anglers of Texas, who made the trip.
Congrats to all CAT members that participated and represented.....

Re: Grenada Mississippi - 03/30/15 09:37 PM
Reflections of the week - man, that's a tough lake!! It is a new lake every time we go. The lake levels change constantly and we have never fished the same area for the tournament for the 4 years we've been going there. Last year there was very little water, this year it was 10 foot higher than last year. The weather was good all week up until Thursday night when a cold front came through. Friday was cold and windy. Saturday was colder and it sleeted/snowed on us. Rhonda shivered uncontrollably all day Saturday. We caught eight keepers on Friday and seven on Saturday. It was tough all week!! But man, when you hook a 3 pounder, there is nothing like it!!! We had 3 on Saturday after searching all week for them. A good day to find them!!
Chris and Willie did a great job finding fish and figuring out what to do to catch them!! So happy they caught that 3 pounder on Saturday - think they are hooked now!!
When you are fishing against 107 of the best teams in the nation, it feels really good to bring that check home. I'd put any of our CAT anglers up against these teams!
Now, on to D'Arbonne in April!
