I think a crappie tournament should be enough. Most adults are not going to pay an entry to fish a tounament then go after sunfish.

how does it work as far as weigh-in? 5 fish or what? if it is less than limit is it against the rules to go aheah and keep a limit? and payout is to adult anglers only right? and prizes for kids?

Payout is for adults only. We will weight 10 fish. You can keep a limit if you want. Or you could donate some to the fish fry following the tournament.

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 03/02/10 03:30 AM

This is a note for some guys that haven't fished Benbrook. There is some serious Timber in the main lake y'all should look out for. With the water being up a little it will be tough/impossible to see it. I think it would be a good idea for Bikeman, Sac-Lait-Pat, Kerry or someone else that fishes the lake a lot to chime in to help y'all with some dangerous areas.

Theres Timber in Benbrook??? bolt Thats what i get asked, when i try to tell some folks when i see them running down the east bank on pad!!

Stucky is right on, The timber pretty much starts on the NE side out from the school house and runs the east bank side all the way south. And it is of course heavy down south by mustang park also, And also in the clear fork arm, there is alot more, i just down have time to post all of it, any questions feel free to PM me and i will answere best i can.
Posted By: bikeman

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 03/02/10 03:41 AM

I wish someone could put up a map with the timber marked. I dont know where it is either. I have been very lucky. Kerry says its there, but I have yet to see it. Some is obvious. But alot isnt.

The stumps I can deal with. It was the day that My trailer was up in Rocky Creek Park and I was trying out a Piranha prop to find what size blade my boat was happy with. and found a fricken TREE near Richardson slue in 33 ft of water 1 ft down. Now that ruined my day. lost all 3 blades and had to run trolling motor all the way back to the ramp

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 03/02/10 03:10 PM

Forgot to add I will be fishing this. I might have my boy with me or I might have an open seat in the boat. I won't know for sure until it gets a bit closer.

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 03/26/10 07:11 PM

My Kiddo has decided he wants to fish it with me. So as of now Its me, and the boy(10)with a possible on my wife. No idea where the fish will be. Cold snap threw them for a loop. I was out last Thursday with 64-65F water temp and the sand bass were starting to get up in the creeks. Then we had that crazy snow weekend and Monday morning temp was 47F I don't think I even graphed a fish above 12' all morning.
Posted By: Kerry Dugan

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 03/27/10 02:14 PM

As of friday 3/26/10 the water temp was 55/56 i was out from around 1;30 till 6;30pm, Didnt boat anthing till right about 5pm, no keepers at all. Majority of everything i marked was 20 + foot.

If we dont get some consistant weather this week, which early outlook looks decent, gonna be pretty tough. Also looks like the "infamous" wind is gonna hang around. Gonna make the tourney interesting to say the least. grin

If all goes well and there is a good turnout,I see no reason why there cant be more. Entry is $10 PER MAN. 2 adults allowed per boat. Jr anglers fish for free with a chance at prizes but no cash. See the first post in this thread for more details.

Change of plans.

Benbrook Marina has generously donated the oil for the fish fry. The fry is on. Even if noone shows for the tournament we are frying fish. I have a bunch in the freezer, and will bring it. You guys that are fishing, bring your familys and make a day of it.

Im going to go pick up my fryer, but is someone wants to bring thier gas fryer it would make it easier on me. I will bring corn meal batter, and taters for fryin unless someone else wants to help out.

I can bring tators and onions and ketchup if it helps. And a pan too I guess. I am going to dig my fryer out of the shed tomorrow, hope the rats didnt eat the hose. How many fryers do you have. If you have one for the fish and one for tators, then probably be good to go. So, do I need my fryer is the question I guess.

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 04/03/10 01:25 AM

Ok guys we should have a great turn out. It seem the wind is in full cooperation. Just a few reminders:
You must leave the marina at or after the launch time.
No fishing prior to the launch.
We will have a short meeting prior to launch
There will be an option for a $5 big fish pot, open to all ages.
There is a fry after. Drinks are up to the individual(not provided)
If you drink adult beverages, do it responsibly.
WATCH FOR STUMPS they are there

For those not taking part, we will have a full report after the event.

I will be at the marina by 6:30 You must see me for registration. Im a big ugly guy in a brown and white boat. Not to be confused for the meduim sized ugly guy fishing with me. (sorry Bill)

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 04/03/10 01:28 AM

What u mean leave the marina? I thought folks were going to be able to fish from there? Understood that is an extra fee. Just wanna clear it up.
Posted By: bikeman

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 04/03/10 01:32 AM

Let me clear that up.lol

You must begin your fishing adventure at the designated launch time. Wether it be by boat, plane, submarine, hang glider, tube kayak, tube, snakers, boots ,sandels, are any other means of approaching the water to catch fish.

Guys I have to say, Bikeman put on a great tourney. And I enjoyed meeting a lot of you. I must also commend Basswax for what he does. I had a great time even though the fish were far and few. I must also give thanks to all those who donated for the kids. I am sure Bikeman will come along with the results for y'all. Wonderful day.

Re: Crappie Tornament @ Benbrook - 04/04/10 04:22 AM

a friend of mine a kid 20yrs old and just learning to fish. had a bad experience today fishing. he wanted to be in the tourament so he went up there to pay his 10.00 dollars and was treated rudely by some of the entrants because drove up in a car and was going to be fishing in a john boat. to me they should be incourageing people to learn how to fish not discourageing them. idon't know who you are but you do. thanks a lot i hope someday i can return the favor.

I dont know what your talking about. There was noone that I delt with that was treated bad. I personaly delt with each angler that signed up. EXCEPT for the 2 guys that showed up about 45 minutes late. That was handled by phone. I still allowed them to enter even late. I doubt your friend was mistrated because he was in a jon boat. Have your friend call me. Ill pay him his entry fee backout of my pocket.
