RIP Matthew.
I still remember fishing with you and Ernest Paty. The highlight of my 50+ years of crappie fishing. Only thing better would be fishing with my dad one more time.

What a good person he was for sure always wanting to help others. He taught me a lot about tying jigs, and we had a lot of fun chasing the thump, and making memories together. He was a very close and dear friend of mine and will be missed. Like I told you on Wednesday Jigum when we visited its not good bye, its see you later my friend. RIP Jigum

Had the honor of meeting and knowing Matthew after he moved to the Austin area. Enjoyed the time we spent together over the last year and a half. Had some good laughs eating biscuits and gravy at Ross' Old Austin Cafe. Proud to be able to call him a friend. I have been blessed knowing you and will miss you Matthew.

Brian, I read on Matts FB page where his wishes were to be cremated and spread about his favorite fishing lake.

I was a bass fisherman when I met Matt. I ask him for some advice about crappie fishing. The conversation lasted over 3 hours. I could not believe that a man I had never met would share so much knowledge. I still have some of his jigs. None better. There are few men that you just cannot say anything bad about. Matt was one of the few. The world is a lesser place. RIP Matt.

R.I.P. Jig'um....
Like many others, I too liked Matt. Prayers for his family during these times.
Did not know him. But, judging from the posts he was a fine individual. May our Almighty Father provide his family and friends with comfort, peace and understanding. And, may all his heavenly thumps result is solid hooksets in the roof of the mouth. Rest In Peace, Sir.

It is a sad time when we loose a guy like Matthew! Last time I got to talk to Matthew was several weeks ago and he was calling to help another guy which is the way he was. We spoke over the years a good bit and he was always a really nice good man!
RIP Matthew!

Well as the Christian knows we mourn knowing that we will meet again, I never met him on Earth so I will see him in Heaven. I did talk to him when ordering jigs he made and he was very helpful and just a great guy.
My condolences to his friends and family.

Matt was a great man, excellent fisherman, and made me plenty of quality jigs!
Was hoping he would get well enough to fish with me again on Lake Somerville.
Last time we fished together was Lake Granger. Matt was not doing well at that time either, but he pushed himself to go even though he had to bring along his oxygen bottle.
We had a blast that day and I was happy that Matt was able to fish.
We talked about fishing Somerville, but sadly Matt never got well enough to make the trip.
Will catch up with ya Matt @ Lake Heaven!

AMEN...
Fishing, talking, learning from Matthew has made my life fuller and more complete. I will never forget the Day Matthew called me and immediately asked to speak to Rachel (my daughter). He had heard that she out fished her dad on her first time fishing with his Jigs. He had three questions...1) could he post a photo of her on his website; 2) could he send her some more Jigs; and 3) could she give her dad a hug for him...
Some people survive their passing and remain as an inspiration to us as we continue our lives...Matthew Carroll is one such man...my God Bless you Matthew, my friend.

Being a rabid Sooner fan, fishing trips with Matthew were always interesting to say the least. He was a rabid Longhorns fan. We spent more time trying to knock each others hat in the water, knock fish off, etc. Good times. I bet he's rolling over the demise of the Longhorns the last few years.
A true Texas gentleman. I can't wait to meet again.

It’s so true...I ALWAYS wore a TCU hat whenever I visited or fished with Matthew...his comments were always entertaining...plus, I would occasionally provide him with some Aggie or Frog stuff, just to watch the anguish on his face! And he always hated that phone call right after (and during) the TCU/UT football game! Nothing like it, he was a died in the wool Longhorn! I used to ask him if he thought the horns would ever win another game against the Frogs...his responses covered a multitude thought and emotion! I really miss him...
