**May 12th spring get together ,lake murvall ( Results added)

I figured id start a new thread to sort of tie up any loose ends and details

* When/ where...lake murvall marina may 12th

* the weather is looking great for that weekend!!

* We need to recap on who is coming and what you can bring ( oil, fryers, sides, drinks, deserts ect.)

* I was unable to get the pavilion,so i figure we will have the fish fry outside of one of the cabins...bring chairs for your self.

* Also speak up if your fishing the fun tournament... I think we will do a 20$ entry (per boat)...best 7 crappie and Winning boat takes all...with a 25$ gift card for the biggest non crappie trash fish.( This could be a 10 lb bass) time 7:00am to 1:00pm

* I have two extra cabins reserved in my name (they sleep 6) if any one wants to claim them let me know by next monday or im gonna cancel them.

I am still coming, I still want a cabin, and I will bring my arse...

Hickory Nut, Belinda & I will there. Have a cabin reserved. Bringing a 12 x 12 canopy, fish fryer, digital scales, etc.

Just a little idea of what you could be getting into this coming weekend, i want everyone to be informed and prepared.

Unless something major comes up I plan to be there Friday and Saturday. I’m planning on bringing paper plates, paper towels, and tarter sauce. I can bring peanut oil, fryers, fish, French fries, hush puppies, fish batter, etc if we need it.

I am planning on coming and I need a head count for dinner Friday night.

I have onions in the fridge and said I would get peanut oil.

I need a place to crash and a back seat.

Post up if you are coming Friday night.

Is there a steak involved? count me in!

I can make up some tarter sauce once I get there...so don’t bother buying any...

BTW, it is a 3.5 hour drive for me, so daylight is asking a bit much....I just walked in the door an sat down, and still got a lot to do!

Anyone that uses crappie nibbles thinks that way too...me, I get breakfast, after coffee...saunter down to the boat about 3 or 4pm, fish for a while catch a good mess (cooler full) the put them on ice, and take it easy...no nibbles necessary...

Fair warning mine is kinda different. It’s got old bay seasoning and creamy horseradish sauce in it. Not that spicy but it is different.

I guess you like to use crappie nibbles too? don’t know what it is, but you nibbles guys all stick together! And NO, I do not put nibbles in my tarter sauce...it IS a recipe handed down for generations...Only serve it to my friends!

Actually Ken, it was pretty good...I never could taste the horseradish...which is a good thing to me. Not to tangy, not too sweet...and I ate all I got...ate half my fish with and half without...MUCH BETTER than storebought, which I don’t care to eat...

I am gonna have to do a couple top ten lists on that GTG...maybe a top ten comments made, and a top ten things I learned...if you were there and have submissions, send me a PM!

You get a bunch of crappie fishermen together and it's always fun. Especially when you add in some good eats.

Fishing was good...some of us fished Friday...enough fish were caught that we didn’t need to use Saturday’s catch...

Yes sir, I believe a good time was had by all... I want to thank everybody for coming out and participating. There were enough one liners, insults, and outright lies going around to keep everybody busy... At one point my wife whisperd to me" yall really talk to each other like that".. hahaha she thought somebody was going to get mad or offended.
The fellowship was good!.. fishing was great!!.. and the food was wonderful!!!.

(Todd and hickory) nut had the heaviest Stringer and schooled us real good... hickory nut also won the $25 gift card that was donated for the biggest non crappie fish, which turned out to be about a 3 lb Channel cat..

(Mr Roach and Just one more) won The Prize Package that was donated by thermocline lures for the smallest Stringer( hopefully they can up there game now that they have something that will catch big fish)

(crappiecat) seemed to be in a quandary the entire weekend when it came to fishing, his rods were either to short to shoot docks or two long to fish brush piles..I know he's proud of his equipment, but the poor fellow just about brought a knife to a gun fight.hahaha.

I never realized how small murvall was untill you get a bunch of potlickers on the same water hole!!..If we happen to do this again i think ill call it the 2nd annual lake murvall get together and potlicker tournament

Troy and I cleaned 65 Fri afternoon that were caught between him, Dale, Tbox and myself. Had three gallon zip locks of fillets. Great lake for crappie. All teams weighed in a seven fish limit Sat. Tbox and I had seven weighing fish by eight am Sat morning. We startd fishing about nine Sunday morning and didn't keep any fish but easily had over fifty fish by four.
By the way, I even won an academy gift card for a two pound catfish.

Murvaul is a Great little lake!
We got lucky and put a good pattern together pretty quickly.
Big log laydowns in 8-12 fow held the better quality fish.

SERIOUSLY, great time, enjoyed visiting with everyone

I totally enjoyed myself, my back hurt until the last few minutes of fishing when TroyKing put a couple of solid keepers in the boat. Man, I thought I was gonna have to carry him all day🤪. It was a good time and great food, the sweet tea, cheesecakes and the homemade ice cream just made it that much sweeter.

Don’t feel bad, my back hurt on Friday afternoon as well! Took him a while to let me near a dock, but once he did...game on...

There was definitely some pot licking going on!...Troy had his “WHINE” going full tilt...yeeee

I’m just glad Troy caught grief for not getting you “close enough” to the docks like I did..... at one point I was about ready to tie up to one and let you fish trough the trap door in the middle of the dock!!! All kidding aside I had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone. The food and company were both great. Thanks to everyone who participated to make it happen.

I was looking forward to coming and drinking all of Hickory Nuts beer!! Maybe next year!!! Or he can bring it to the camp on Fork Memorial Day weekend!!

No mention of Troy's wifes delicious cherry cheese cake. Troy left a whole one in our refrigerator. That's what I had for supper Sunday night. Ate a bag of pork skins and chased them down with three large cups of tea on the drive home. Wasn't hungry but saw the half Todd let me have and ate most of it Sunday night.
The bad thing about the tournament is now I have another great crappie lake on my list to try and fit in to my busy schedule.

I did notice that Troy at least kinda sorta TRIED to get his boat positioned somewhat sideways, in like Mr. Hans Solo, who likes a 90 degree presentation! Also learned that I am not ever getting the first shot at a dock from the backseat.. in fact I feel fortunate just to get within 50 yards of the dock by the time the second fish comes out from under it!

Importantly, I learned that Troy and you both shoot docks with those old all star drop shot rods...that work much better than those short limber rods I brought...thanks for sharing your spare rod...I mean hey, I also learned that different equipment will let you shoot docks basically through the other side of the dock from 50 yards away from the dock, which is where most of my shots came from...

On the bright side, I discussed the rod matter with bushhog, who owns more modern type equipment ( ) and he informed me of his dock shooter rod selection...and I just happen to own a couple of them!

Further, I am working on upgrading my jig selection specifically for dock shooting, even as we speak...probably not what you are using, but with all the ingredients that we discussed (or more specifically, you instructed)...That said, you really upgraded my dock shooting knowledge on equipment, and I sincerely appreciate that fact. Now come on over this way, bring different equipment (that dock stuff won’t work for standing timber) and we can fish some timber...don’t worry, I always carry extra rods in the boat! Plus, I won’t make you flounder around very long before I suggest you use it, just saying...

I fished Murvaul Saturday morning with my Dad and a buddy. There was a lot more crappie fisherman than I ever seen on the lake. We caught a good mess of fish but had to leave just after lunch to get one back for a wedding. I would have enjoyed visiting with some of y'all.

Dock shooting's fun but evidently brush piles are where the $$$$ at.

You would have been welcomed...heck, Troy had everybody around over at some point...I am guessing they REALLY like his wife/kids!

ANYBODY can catch big fish on brushpiles, bushhog...I mean hey, Tbox and hickory nut can! Invite them to shoot docks sometime, see how that works out!

Ken, I am happy to report that crappieXpress admitted that the crappie in this lake are retarded, because he could catch them without the use of crappie nibbles!

Got to hand it to hickory nut, that man can flat make up a batch of homemade ice cream...spinning yarns and telling stories while the ice cream is making...man, folks don’t know what they missed! Just like we used to do it back home, except we had to hand churn it back then (the worst part).
