crappie limit in the late 1970s

Anyone remember the bag and length limit for crappie in the late 70s?

All you could catch n carry n clean.
No length n no limit.

I remember looking at crappie as to how thick they were. If thick enough to fillet , they were keepers.

Yep remember going with dad, catching till we couldn't get any more in the basket at twok, lavon, hubbard, and cedar creek, when it was new! LOL crappie $ bass fishing there was off the charts.Different times, no hi/ def flat screens on board si. etc.

Yep, I remember those days as well, loaded em up on stringers wading and walking levees with a jig pole and jigs with my dad and a couple of his buddies.
Back then jigging poles were not made, we had to find the right fly rods to use with wooden dowels attached to the ends where the real seats were and just wrapped the line around the wood and let out the amount of line we needed, usually only 1.5 to 2 feet.

For several years we never ever saw anyone else jigging with jig poles and jigs, its amazing how times have changed. I see people jigging with jig poles everywhere now, I will not name them but there are a couple of well known guys that made the jigging and jig poles a popular way to catch springtime crappie.

I remember catching 300 plus crappie once at Tawakoni back in the early 70's. We ran out minnows and dad had us digging for earthworms. They hit anything you put in the water for 4 hours straight. Nobody used lures back them. We filled the trunk of moms car and gave fish to everyone in the neighborhood. For a jigging pole we got a 10ft cane pole and made the reel and guides out of a clothes hanger and electrical tape. filled the basket and stringer so we had to make additional stringers out of our shoe laces. It was a epic day of fishing. Dad talked about that day up until his death.

The reason I was asking is because my first real crappie trip was in the late 70s. My dad and I were at Coon Creek Club (and yes I know the original spelling). We tied off to the top of a tree and put about 100 in the boat. Some of other dads and sons went out with guides and came back with less than 20. That was a fun day, but I remember Mr. Nash telling us we were over the limit, which I assume was a club limit since there was no state limit at the time.

Me and Papaw would fish until you couldn't push the lid down on the fish basket.

Can remember fishing Belton in the 60s and getting a few dead minnows from Elmer Hills dock and heading to the crappie hole. Once we caught a couple small crappie, we made cut bait in small strips and continued to catch all the crappie we wanted to clean. Didn't count, just said that's enough to clean for today and usually headed in by 11 am.

Nope...I just remember we quit fishing when we ran out of minners...and we bought all the minners we could afford, which always seemed to be equal to my allowance plus any money I got for extra work...
