Any crappie at Huntsville State Park lake? - 12/26/17 02:31 AM

I’ve just moved to the Bryan/College Station area - 50 years ago went to Sam Houston and spent some time at “State Lake”. Now want to do some fishing. Is there any crappie in State Lake?

Yes it has crappie. Not sure on the quantity but it should be good. I have caught some off of the dock that deeper in the park. If your fishing from a boat then I would just cruise around and look for some structure and cover. I haven't ever taken a boat to there but most likely will soon.

Yes there are Crappie in the State Lake. The ones I catch are on brush piles. You will have to use your dept finder to find the brush piles, then cast to them because the water is wasd so clear, the shaddow of your boat causes problems. Most of the brush piles are from the Boat ramp to the spillway. In 12 to 20 feet of water, the deeper ware is in front of the spillway where the construction is going on. It has been tough fishing lately they killed the Hydrailla last spring, that caused the oxygen level to drop in the any water deeper than 10 ft so the fish scattered and were not on brush nor weed beds. Next year should be better.
There are also Crappie in Gibbons Lake in Carlos. There is a lot of brush off of the Island by the dam next to deep water. In about 14-18 feet of water. You will need to use your depth finder to find the Brush.
