Market Place, seems like easiest way to look at options. Blue Cross is the only option though...LOL!

its pretty easy math, pay your mortgage, your car payment, phone, electric, water, then you figure that health insurance is as much as you mortgage you go without.

https://www.ehealthinsurance.com/

Open enrollment ended on the 31st. However, you would seem to have a qualifying event that would allow you to enroll now. Blue Cross Blue Shield is all that's available, and is HMO. My plan is good, but over $600/month.

Check out Christian Healthcare ministries. May or may not be right for you but it does meet the ACA requirements.

TRS is most likely your best option

Agree with Hancock - you're very unlikely to find anything on the open market that's as good as what your wife's school district offers. I know it's high, but the marketplace is higher.

Agree. Haven't checked in a year or so, but there were three plans for retired teachers and their spouses last time I checked. Seemed they were priced at around $200, $400, and $600/month, which are very good prices nowadays.

Until you get medicare get something affordable. Then find the cheapest secondary insurance when you get Medicare. Medicare pays hospital and recovery for 20 days.
Also check prices on your local hospitals for treatment costs.

For example, my local hospitals, Texoma Medical Center MRI= $7,800.
Wilson N. Jones MRI= $1,200 and you can negotiate prices and payments.

Good luck.

I've been scouring for a plan for my son since October 31st, which is when Blue Cross sent a letter stating they're increasing my son's premium from $220 to over $350 beginning January 1st. I for sure couldn't afford that. The cheaper plans have ridiculous deductibles.

So yes, my son is actually uninsured at this time.

- Do I feel bad about about it? Absolutely.
- Can I do anything about it? Pray they'll finally get rid of this stupid "affordable healthcare" law. And throw what I was paying in premiums in a savings account and use it to pay out of pocket.

Get you some of that Obamacare. I heard it is really good and you can keep your doctor if you like him.

Look into Multiplan/PHCS. Works alittle differently than regular insurance but price is reasonable. At your age they will make you get a physical first to access risk.
