How can I tell if my chimney is on fire without going outside? - 01/07/17 02:11 AM

Just wondering. It's cold out there. If my chimney were on fire, how would I know?

It roars very loud before it collapses (implodes) into the house.

A sign of a chimney on fire is charred bricks above the fireplace grate.

Call your neighbor across the street and ask them to look out the window, or call the fire department and have them come check for you.

That dog is made for ground action. You need a taller dog to alert you to problems at higher altitudes.

Yeah, you definitely have a fire going... But by now you probably figured that out.

I wonder how many times a chimney catches on fire and burns its self out and people never even know it? I trimmed the tree branches back from the chimney hole so the tree would not catch on fire. Sometimes I slam the damper open and closed real hard and it bangs stuff down. Burning mesquite right now. Thanks for that Moto. Tomorrow I go hunting for wood. Got some located but am not sure how easy it's going to be getting out. Should be a fun day if I don't get the truck stuck.

Put one of your fancy home security cameras pointed at your chimney. Make your kids watch it.

It's ok, I will be home all weekend and can stack it when you bring it by. I can wait. First beer is on me. If that does not work, i can possibly come help cut it up. I love using my chain saw.

If you need firewood, neighbor, come on by. I have probably 3 cords cut but only some split and at least 5 more that need cutting. Bring the saw and we will get after it. You can take all you want of what I have cut. I have probably 200 post oaks on my property and I'm making room for the bigger ones to thrive. If you will help I'll split it as well. I only have a maul but we can use my neighbors splitter if i don't have one by then. I couldn't smoke enough briskest in a lifetime to burn all this. I really only burn outdoors anyway.

Just come by and I'll load you up. If you want to bring the saw we can do work but I have plenty already cut and plenty that is already seasoned. It's uncovered outside and some of it is years old so you Amy not want to burn it inside but I've never had issues.

Where there's smoke there is fire... close the damper! Then read up on this thread.

That's a generous offer but I'm flush for quite awhile. I had to have 3 pecan and a few oaks cut down this summer.

How do you build a fire so big in your little fireplace that it catches the trees on fire above the house?
