The one in my town closed a year or two ago and the building is still empty. Saying it was overdue for a remodel was an understatement.
45 years ago I got food poisoning eating at that place, never went back.

Red Lobster.$$$$$.
20 dollars plus per plate dinner menu.
Used to take my Pops to the Pearland location before it closed down, he dug the “all you can eat shrimp” deal. Each time out of the 5 I went, the food/service/quality progressively got worse. Dirty and dusty af too.

Many years ago it used to be pretty good. They got into a cost cutting death spiral.
Red Lobster in Corpus Christi had some dang good fried flounder when I lived there. That was quite a few years back. Actually everything at that location was good. Wife and I used to go to the one in Pearland but haven’t been in years.

Went to one on a blind, double date back in 1990. We got married 5 months later and neither of us has gone back there since, getting ready to celebrate our 24th anniversary.
Heard that the one we went to has gone down hill really bad.

I agree. Used to be a nice treat for us on things we couldn’t get ourselves such as king crab. Hate to see them go though. My guess is many more will fold over unsustainable labor costs. Maybe when you file chapter 11 the government should send you a couple thousand illegals and make them work for you for free until their asylum hearing.

Yes it's still open, they have opened a couple places that claim to be Cajun style but they leave alot to be desired. Barbecue, Mexican ( Tex-Mex) and Steakhouses are still you're best bet up here.

I know a guy that spends most of his money eating at RL.
he weighs about 400 pounds.
Seen bigger brine shrimp then what they served me last time I was there. Too many other better choices.

At one time many years ago Red Lobster was pretty good especially since not too many other seafood choices. Somewhere along the line their food and service went downhill. These days RL is not even a consideration too many other much better choices. Actually my favorite seafood place is Big Fish on Main Street in Grapevine.

Re: Red Lobster - 04/17/24 12:01 PM
Agree with Hard Rain above . . . there's just too many other choices. Haven't been to a RL in 20 years and that was only when my mom was alive she liked the place and would request we go there.
And as has been said, the food used to be ok to pretty good.

Tip of the iceberg....... the industry is in a death spiral. Leases got completely out of hand and the labor issues are the cherry in top of the poop sundae. I expect to see 50 percent of the casual dining segment in some type of restructure or flat out go away in the next 5 years. You are gonna see some transactions where profitable store get bundled and sold then stores with garbage leases get grouped in companies and bankruptcy declared to get out of lease deals. The 30 dollar a foot plus leases with 15 triple net were never sustainable.

I don't care for seafood, but I do like to fish.
An old girlfriend's son had a 20th birthday back in 2010.
He wanted Red Lobster.
I know that at a seafood joint, all fried food is fried in the same grease, therefore, I didn't eat.
Once inside, everything smelled like fried fish, shrimp, whatever.
All I could put down was a Dr. Pepper, but even the ice had a fish taste!!!!
My girlfriend knew all this, but I happily went.
Addendum: This woman is the woman I "would" have married, but her son, this son, was so messed up with drugs and weed, I eventually broke up with her. I knew that if I married her, "he" would become my responsibility, and Carmen and I would have gotten divorced because of it.
To this day, she and I still talk, and her son is more messed up now than he was back then. Blessings to her. She's a trooper! She has no choice.
Red Lobster...I'm indifferent.
...!

Just watched a news blip on this subject RL is saying they lost something like $5mm on the endless shrimp promotion AYCE for $20. Even at that cost I would not bother with RL. Heck Kroger usually has a dozen fresh cooked shrimp and includes cocktail sauce for $5. We buy some occasionally and actually very good.

That's just bad server training. They should have brought out a plate of sides and bread regardless, and left it sitting there for 10 minutes prior to serving the crab. Then they slow roll the crab and serve only small quantities at a time, and always with fresh biscuits on the plate.
