Girlfriends Who Are Against Your Hobbies?

I really enjoy fishing whenever I can spare the time, but my partner seems to hate the idea of me doing it and thinks its a waste of time (which could be spent with her instead she claims). Does anyone else ever get this from their partners as well? If any of you guys do, I could really use some advice.

Well, we've been together for a year, and she's never liked this hobby of mine. Fishing helps me relax and destress but she thinks there are other ways to destress instead of spending the whole day out and uncontactable. Recently, I've been pretty stressed out at work and last weekend decided to go on a day trip with my buds to finally catch a breather.

Honestly, bad things seem to all stack up together - went out, faced bad weather, cell service got cut, got stuck out and only made it back 4 hours after the supposed time. Finally came back in service to face my extremely upset partner who kind of went on a panic mode because she couldn't contact me for that entire period (she was already in a foul mood to begin with), and in that moment decides she needs a break from this relationship. I thought she was just being fiesty at that point, but turns out she may have been serious because now she won't respond to my texts or calls.

Any advice on what to do now? I do really love her so 'just giving up and walking away' isn't a valid plan despite her being against my hobby.

Seriously, it's one thing to have a wife who is just not interested in your hobbies (like fishing). But it's altogether different when she is opposed to them.

This reminds me of this guy I used to know who made an account on a different forum and dove straight in to the section totally unrelated to the website and made a pretty unbelievable post.

I told my wife before we even got married and started dating, “ I hunt and fish all the time and I’ve been doing it since I was 4 years old. I will not stop and no one is going to tell me I can’t go.”

I would be even madder about her trying to call and interrupt my fishing. She should know better.

Even if you go, but she has you feeling like you're doing something wrong, you've just ruined everything good that fishing does for you. You'll be constantly worried about her while you should be enjoying the fishing.

It's been my observation that men with kahunas so small they need to ask questions like this are never happy in life unless they are someone else's doormat. So... if she's hot you should just follow her advice and throw in the towel on fishing. Otherwise you'll ditch her and find another one just like her but probably uglier. Who knows though, an uglier one could force your self-esteem right down where you like it, on the ground next to her purse.

Have to agree with most of the posts here. My wife hates my fishing also and we are now in the middle of a divorce. Trust me, you don't want to end up giving half of everything you have worked for to someone who never truly appreciated you for who you are.

I had one that tell me I had no business hunting or fishing. Made fun of me and said you don’t know anything about hunting and fishing. I explained I was fishing and hunting before I knew her and would after her too.

She got a set of divorce papers for that and the fact she turned out to be a not so a nice person.
