Yea couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Blue collar guy, loves to fish. Been down on his luck the last few years, house burned down, wife left him, open heart surgery. His boat is so old he can't get parts for it anymore (I don't think he'll have that problem anymore) LOL!

Congrats to him. Hopefully, he is smart with the money and does not end up
like the majority of winners.

I don't do these so still trying to see HOW he won - what was his number that he matched?

All of them. It looks like a bunch of multipliers. When you get those it's an automatic winner for each amount it's above.

Pretty sure that’s one of those fake/joke scratch offs. We did that at Christmas once. It was awesome.

Peebles, make sure he gets in touch with a good CPA, and I mean TODAY.

According to that ticket, and if my math's correct, he won $2,760,000 gross. Is that correct, or are we being spoofed?

Re: Buddy in H-Town just hit 2.5 Million Dollar Scratch-Off - 05/16/18 05:17 PM
20 spots at 100 x 1000 = 2 million
4 spots at 5 x 20,000 =400,000.00
2 spots at 10 x 1000 = 20,000.00
4 spots at 100 x 200 = 80,000.00
2.5 million

I won 50 on a 20 dollar scratch off the other day.
I went back and bought another 20 dollar scratchoff and won 100 dollars.
I quit while I was ahead.
Took the wife out to Cotton Patch to celebrate.

Definitely not a fake, I've acutallty seen that particular ticket at the store. The fakes do look like real tickets though, until you read the back (redeem at your moma's house, Lol). I saw a pic of the check as well. After Uncle Sam got hold of it, he took home $1,900,004.80. He did also contact a CPA as well, said he still plans on going back to work Monday.

Those scratch off spaces were just automatic wins for those values.

That was my confusion as well -- the winning numbers didn't seem to match anything - glad someone who knew what was going on could explain. If I'd have had this ticket I'd probably have tossed it because none of the numbers matched.

I would have thought it would have been taxed more than that. They only took like 23%?

Standard "backup" withholding on casino or lottery winnings is usually 20%, and the recipient has to pay any remaining tax due by the appropriate due dates.
I've not ever dealt with a large lottery winning like this, so honestly not sure if the standard is 25% at that dollar level.
