Long John Silvers - 02/16/18 01:18 PM
While were on the subject of fast food, I don't see how LJS makes it after another 10 years or so.
I eat there now and again. Everytime I do, I am the youngest guy in there by about 15 years. I suspect once the baby boomers pass on, LJS will go with it.

We had one in Granbury, Chik-fil-A built next to it and it shut down.

I used to like their fried clams but they changed the batter a few years ago. I could ask this same question about waffle house.

We used the same ad agency as them years ago. According to them LJS did 75 percent of their annual sales during lent. That always amazed me.

Worked at Captain D's for a week in High school, but transferred to McDonald's for the better company structure.

The Waffle House is greatness! Try the vomit bowl (hash brown bowl) and load it up with tabasco sauce.

I ate at one about a year ago for the first time in 8-10 years. It will probably be another 8-10 years before I do it again.

That **** ain't good for our body and the younger generation wont touch it.

Re: Long John Silvers - 02/16/18 03:03 PM
I used to eat at Long Johns once a week for years. Always stopped at the one in Florida City on way back from fishing Flamingo until it burned down and was never rebuilt. Now eat at LJS in Tyler on way back from Fork. I wouldn't drive anywhere to eat there but if its on the way, I'll stop.

I haven't eaten at one in about 10 years. I have eaten at a Captain D's, because I preferred them. It's been about 6 months, though.

If you are gonna do ljs right you get an extra cup of crunchies, cover all with Vinager, dip the fish in that tater like substance they serve then dip it in extra crunchies. That's how it's done.

Re: Long John Silvers - 02/17/18 01:49 PM
About 20 years ago I was visiting my dad in East Tennessee. He offered to take us out to eat some seafood. I was pumped ... let's go! He took us to LJS. At the time I was used to catching my own shrimp, crabs, and flounder and ate them routinely.
I was a bit disappointed.

My dad was from England, he slathered it all over everything, the smell throughout the house used to make my stomach churn. I like it now, in moderation

Are the mushy peas just green peas or is it a relish or salsa type of thing?
Posted By: mouldybits
Re: Long John Silvers - 02/17/18 06:21 PM
Just green peas boiled down till they go mushy, great as they are or even with a sprinkle of salt and splash of vinegar on, really give you gas though!!

I was there on Wednesday...they've done some freshening up on the inside and it no longer smells like that. Fish was great like it was a couple years back, and the cole slaw was the best I've had there. I had stopped going because the service and food just wasn't what it once was. It seems like they've gotten it back to normal.

The opened up one these places near me about a year ago - Solid variety of good seafood at a reasonable price. The Catch is way better than Captain D's & LJS.

Opened a Catch near me in Arlington. Like it a lot and the best thing is they hired our bar tender away from the Chili's. Go there quite a bit. Hard to get a seat at the bar though.
