Kayak Advice

Hey guys i am looking to buy a brand new kayak for around 1000 dollars. i do a lot of river an river overnight trips along with fishing creeks and small lakes. what kayaks would you suggest?

Have you tried the Wilderness Ride 115? A shorter, maneuverable kayak will be nice on the river. But be sure to demo as many as possible First.

No i have not tried that one. are you able to stand up on this kayak? does it have a lot of storage room?

You can eliminate a lot of kayaks for fishing primarily on rivers. It helps narrow it down a bit.

So, no in general to any thermo-formed boats, you'll want the tougher HDPE.

And, no to pedals, again in general, as they are often a mess.

Standability often means at least 34" in width and decent length (12 feet?).

There is a new Native 12 footer coming out soonthat is pretty wide, set up well for rivers.

*** Anyone out here is welcome to come give it a spin if you are near Lake Athens. I think it'd shock a lot of people regarding the upsides.

Agree about the WS Ride 115. I think most people would agree the Ride 115 is a very stable kayak to stand and fish from. The tankwell is a good size for an 11.5' kayak. Internal storage is good too. Due to its pontoon/tunnel hull design there's quite a bit of storage along the sides. I have the 135 and through the use of paracord I'm able to slide my tent and camp table down the sides of the kayak to the back. When I set up my campsite for the evening I just yank on the cord and pull out the tent.

The Diablo Amigo is a kayak/sup hybrid designed for river fishing/camping. It doesn't have as much internal storage, but a very stable platform. Could even look for a used Jackson Coosa or Coosa HD. Also, the Nucanoe Flint should be a great option too, though it's new and I haven't had an opportunity to paddle one yet.

Someone has a NuCanoe all decked out over on DFW Kayaking on FaceBook for sale.

I can't recall the price but I believe it is heavily discounted and said to have been on the water just once.

It might be worth a look. That'd be a nice platform for standing and fishing rivers, streams and small lakes.

There are a ton of great options. 2 kayaks you may want to look at are the viking profish 400 lite or the viking gt. The 400 is super light weight if i recall...53 lbs. Its fast, stable and very maneuverable.
