Out riggers for my kayak - 08/31/17 11:37 PM

I have a 17 ft teal touring kayak. I would like to install outriggers
Does anyone have any ideas?

If the Hobie inflatable outriggers will fit I'd definitely recommend them. They are adjustable so you can keep them out of the water when not needed. They are easy to stow and only take a few breaths to inflate. I have some for my Hobie Outback and they work real well.

You should search kayak outriggers on youtube, there are several good ideas there. i would think that the aft deck lines (safety straps) are sturdy enough to support them since thats where you wedge your paddle to do a paddle assisted self rescue. Out of curiosity what kind of touring kayak is it?

wojo: The ones I like best have two aluminum adjustable flag pole mounts, so you can adjust the amount of depth of the floats. I considered making a pair for my skiff, using four 8" foam trap float buoys, two back to back, per side. There's a fisherman's supply in Alabama(I think), that sells them for $10 each. Good luck!
