Lewisville Lake vs. Lake Grapevine this Weekend and Tactics?

Lewisville Lake vs. Lake Grapevine this Weekend and Tactics? - 11/10/16 02:00 AM

I will be taking an 11 year old fisherman with very little fishing experience kayaking and fishing this weekend. So far, I've done very little fishing in the local lakes. Which one would you take a new young kayak fisherman this weekend and where would you launch?

I want to show him a good time and I think that more action vs. size will be better. White bass and/or hybrids, or crappie would be good and possible bass action could add to the fun.

If you have another suggestion, please feel free to tell me and tips on what lures to use would also be helpful. Feel free to PM me if that is what you prefer.

Thanks in advanced for the help!

Personally, I would take in to Lake Lewisville. Cottonwood Park/Cove/Marina. No park/fees just park at marina and walk boats down. Lightly wooded coves up creek to the east, secondary points to the west and northwest, out to main lake point and flat f you want to venture further... Always fish there. Schools of whites roll through periodically, sometimes hybrids out in middle. Some big drum and cats roaming, that are not too shy for a Crankbait snack... Plenty of 1-2lb bass around points to be had on tx rigs. A Berkley havoc pit boss in Okeechobee craw color or havoc boss dog or whatever the lizard is called, black with blue tail has been getting choked.

The fish are fat, aggressive, and plenty.

Lewisville has been good. Get a t-rig anything up in the brush nice and slow and you will get bites.

Spinnerbaits will work too for some bigger fish but the trig will get you bites all day now.

Squarebills in bushes work too. Even on days they are locked onto the cover tight, they'll usually chase one back to boat and get it.

Alternate that and trig creature bait and you will have a fun day.

Mulholland.....Can you explain the logistics or be a little more specific as to where I can launch at "Cottonwood Park/Cove/Marina"? I see that marina on google maps, but I can't find a launch site or parking, so close to the lake. Thanks!

Parking is right there at marina, public access 7am-5pm or so? You have to carry down to water maybe 25-50ft. Lobp ln dead ends through the gate down at parking lot, short walk down to water.

You can pay and launch at Stewart creek park and fish there very well, and be close enough to paddle out to dam on that side of lake of you want. Dam itself not much to note but both ends of the dam are usually decent areas, and the shores along to them.
