Yegua Creek Hogs

Yegua Creek Hogs - 10/22/16 04:13 AM

I paddled up Yegua creek this morning around 8AM in search of crappie. What I found was something completely different. Wild hogs were rooting along the bank and largemouth bass were feeding in the waters below. At first I thought I was going to get a nice stringer of crappie. My first and only crappie was a good 12 incher, but then I proceeded to catch bass the rest of the day. It was challenging using 8# test line and a light weight rod. The bass were killing a Zoom 4" fat albert curly tail grub. I lost a few big bucket mouth bass, but I got to see some great aerial acrobatics. Fishing was just crazy good today. I had bass hit my jig when it was dangling in the water beside my kayak. I had bass come unhooked and would hook another before finishing the retrieve. I had fish eating the jig before I could even start my retrieve. I left em still biting at 2pm.

The bass fishing has been ridiculous on the Yegua. Ran into the same herd of hogs about 2 weeks ago. Didn't spook them either. They all just came to the waters edge and watched me paddle onwards.

Awesome post thumb

You hit that first Sweet spot and didn't have to move. I don't have the energy to kayak my barge all the way to the Yegua, so we've been kayaking up Nails. I sure wish Newman's bottom was open.

I went up to Irwin bridge this afternoon. The water was absolutely crystal clear around the bridge.
