Creek Fishing Fort Worth - 03/16/16 09:25 PM

Hey guys,

My father and I built a kayak before I moved to Fort Worth and now I'm looking to get it in some water. Any suggestions on creeks or small lakes that might be a good place to start? Would love to snag some sandies or whites this time of year.

Appreciate it!

Wow cool you built that! Very nice.

Not sure about in your area BUT I would suggest you check out the bank fishing map in the bank fishing section. Its a stickey on the top there. Many of the places listed you can also yak. Not all of them. But a lot. Its a place to start if your new to the area.

Also of course, google map out some stuff that looks good and go drive out and investigate. See how it is.

Good luck!

Yeah that's a darn good looking kayak! The Trinity River is an excellent fishery here in Fort Worth. I have been wanting to try MAry's Creek on the southwest side but IDK if it hold enough water for fish, let alone kayaks.

definitely holds enough water for fish. And you can yak it too if you can find a place to launch but you would have lots of shallow portage as well.

Almost all of the main lakes in the area have creeks that you can explore.

Clint, an easy lake to just run out and get on quick is Marine Creek in North FW. Mostly small bass and some really big ones caught on occasion.

Then, just for its navigable size and water clarity, you owe yourself a trip down to Wheeler Branch in Glen Rose, the clearest water of all North Texas lakes. Fishing really turns on well just about now down there. Deep at almost 80 feet, I think it just takes a bit longer for the fish to move into the shallows.

Hey! I can't tell by looking. Is your kayak made from cedar strips? The workmanship looks very nice!

I am going to set up a woodworking shop out at Lake Athens in my garage and I have been thinking of building a kayak or a canoe. I helped a friend build a small boat in junior high school woodworking shop a million years ago and I would like to give it a go.

Another project I'd like to build is one of those tear drop small campers. So cool, especially if I could figure out a way to carry my kayak above it.

Cheers! Brad

I was wondering if someone had fished it before. You just answered that question lol

I have not been recently, but I the sandies should be running up the creek at Fort worth nature center.

You may want to call them to see how much water Eagle mountain lake is letting out, it is a nice paddle. You probably will see gators, but don't be alarmed

You can launch from Ten Mile Bridge Road to get to the sandies that are stacking up at the outflow from Eagle Mountain Lake. You'll have to carry maybe 40 yards from parking to the water under the bridge there. Please report back, I don't have a kayak anymore so I'll have to live vicariously for a while.

Marshall Creek is nice and I have had great luck with the fish there. You can get into it several ways but the easiest in my opinion is Trophy Club Park. I think it costs around $5 to get in to the park but you can go into Grapevine Lake from there or up Marshall Creek. Very pretty place to paddle
