Cleburne State Park, Round 2 - Open Invite Sat 3/12 - 03/08/16 01:03 PM

A few of us making plans. I was there last weekend, struck out on crappie after more than a good try. Ended up with 8 catch & release ditch pickles and took home 9 sand bass.

D.L.

Not a bad wind day, Saturday, with winds generally below 10 and temps up to 73 according to Windfinder.Com.

Are you going to target crappie? Sand bass?

Hmm?

Brad,

Maybe if I target LM Bass I can actually catch crappie! "Hmm" is right - think I'll just target sand bass from the start. After a while change it up and explore the lake a little more. With all the rain expected, likely only Wheeler & Cedar Lake will remain relatively clear down that-a-way.

D.L.,

Windfinder.Com shows Saturday to be a low wind day, now indicating a high of 9 mph.

Temps peaking at 66. Rain will have passed through by then according to this site.

What vessel are you pulling down there? Your kayak or your canoe?

What time will you be there?

If I get there, and I will do so if I am in town, I'd want to get there early so which way should I go to meet up with you? South toward the dam, or north?

Never been to the park, but I read where tpwd has placed brush piles. Are the piles marked with anything?

Brad,

I will be there early as well. Windfinder.com Cleburne Airport forecast for Saturday now showing a bit breezy early, with light rain, then both wind and rain subsiding. If forecast sticks, I'll be in Hobie PA; if not, likely be in one of the canoes. Small Lake, after launching will be heading South towards dam. Cove on right is named Fish Cove, and ALWAYS something in there or around mouth to catch, especially your favorite. A co-worker/fellow kayak fisherman + another gent my wife & I met at dinner out one night + possibly one of my sons will be joining.

justindfw,

Cleburne S.P. lake (Cedar Lake) is small. There are several brush piles. They are not marked. Clearly visible on electronics, several are quite large. If you show up Saturday morning I'll show you where they are. They've been UNPRODUCTIVE last few weeks. I have done well on them, one in particular, in warm months.

Last weekend water clarity about 3' visibility, surface temp 58.9-59.9 degrees. Sand bass I caught were in 14-26 fow.

D.L.,

Looks like my fishing plans are delayed. Grandkids out of town take precedence.

But, I'll need a report!

Just a guess that with longer daylight, fish will turn on everywhere over the next few weeks!

Windfidner.com showing weather favorable. I'll be there from dawn thru 11:30 or 12:00 PM, but I committed to help co-worker move mid-afternoon.
