Benbrook Lake info - 09/18/15 02:19 PM

I went out last weekend and had some good luck along the damn with my ultralight gear. I've heard some good things about the largemouth bass out there. Who could provide info on where to fish & what to rig out with. BTW, I am a Catch, Photo & Release type of fisherman.

Thanks in advance

Good luck on BB. I hear it's a tough lake.

Benbrook is a tough lake but it has produced some large Black Bass. Honey Hole done a few shows on Benbrook and it surprised me at the amount of fish caught.
Good Luck!

I fish rivers more than lakes, but have fished Benbrook a bit. I think a lot of people say it's tough because the fish don't spend much time in the shallows outside of spring and fall. There's a lot of deeper structure and cover there that they relate to. Most of the spots I have had luck in are in 15 - 30' of water. Benbrook is a jig, c-rig, shakey head kind of place.

I might have to go try it out in a few weeks. I would like to put in near the south end timber. Is Mustang or Rocky creek open yet?

Mustang Park is open. Rocky Creek closes for the season Sept 30 and had repairs that would not be done by then so never reopened this season.

For those Benbrook Kayak and Bank fishermen. Baja Beach is a good place to launch if you want to fish the dam. It is the time of year when they change the lock on the gate so it is a good time to pick up a new key. You can get the key for about $25 at the Benbrook City Hall. You do not have to live in Benbrook to purchase a key. The gate is just east of the Par 3 Golf Course by the YMCA.

What is the process like for getting a key?

Just go to the City Hall and tell them you would like a key to Baja Beach. I think they are about $25 a year. They change the lock in October and that is when you have to get a new key. Call them and find out when the key changes. Here is the phone number 817-249-3000
Here is the address for the City Hall 911 Winscott Road, Benbrook, TX 76126
I have alway enjoyed going kayak at the dam. It would be a good place to bank fish too.
Let us know what you find out about the key.

The most successful bait I've used on Benbrook is a slither rig with a space monkey on it.
