crazy trip to p.I.n.s. - 08/17/15 06:15 PM

Cudadude and i got there about 11 on thursday night. On the water asap friday morn. We each got our limit of kings fairly easy. Changed to shark after that...for whatever reason they didnt want to play. Went again later that evening and I got another big king that was let go to fight another day. Sat we woke up and I was trolling parallel to the beach about a mile or so offshore and my rod starts screaming. I think its another king at first but felt just a little diffrent. Next thing I know I see it jump....holey sh...!!! Its a sailfish!!! It was jumping all over the place and im hooting and hollering to joe that I got a big sailfish. He comes up and sees me loose the fish of a lifetime. It broke my wire leader. I was crushed. I sat there pouting for a while...such a let down. I had too light of wire. It was a king leader. 60# single strand. The rest of the day I paddled aimlessly and catching spanish mackerel. Sunday woke up early and got out there again and again we get several kingfish each. Monday got up and went out solo. Ended up with 4 kings and a spade fish. Now we are driving back and ready for a shower...I am covered in kingfish blood and beach sand.

Sorry about the sailfish! That would ruin my day but sounds like you did good on kings.

So no worries about bringing a sailfish to the yak? Seems like you could get sliced or impaled rather easily...yikes..sorry you lost your chance to find out though sounds like a great trip

Catching a sail in texas would be bad to da bone.

Sounds like it was a great trip. I know what you mean. I lost a decent tarpon two years ago on PINS. Love that place.

Showers by the PINS store for next time if you need them.

A good sailfish from a kayak video, even if it got away would probably win some kayak video awards...

Maybe...I chase these things out of love for the sport. Not to seek fame. I am very slow when it comes to the tec stuff. Mabey some day I will learn but for now this is how I do it.

Lot of folks fish where you were fishing all the time, and many haven't ever hooked a sailfish!
Consider yourself blessed! thumb

That would be epic to land, and for a few minutes I bet it was an epic feeling...

I always bring a spare set of shorts and a tee shirt and shower outside the parking lot of the Malaquite Visitor's Center. Ain't nothing better than a shower after a few days on the sand.

Sad loss but still a trip to remember for along time. Congrats on a new great memory.
