First thoughts on my new ATAK! (Pic Heavy) - 08/03/15 03:51 PM

Well I was finally able to pull the trigger and get my ATAK, big thanks to Dave and Aris at Mariner Sails for all the help, seriously if you haven't checked them out yet do yourself a favor and go! First off this kayak is CRAZY stable, being a big guy and being able to stand up paddle/fish is awesome! The boat is really comfortable, plenty of leg room, the Air Pro Max seat is every bit as comfortable as your couch at home, the rail systems were well thought out with everything in easy reach, plenty of storage in the front and back hatches, the Flex Pod makes rigging your graph easy and clean, the rear tank well easily fits a crate with room to spare . It paddles easily, cuts the wind and its a dry ride, she is a beast though, if you don't have a cart you better have a buddy near by for loading unloading, and she's long, all in all I couldn't be more happy with this boat!

Ron the boat itself was $1795, accessories were probably somewhere between $400-$500. I keep telling myself that it's an investment, it takes the sting out a little bit!

I thought my couch was pretty good too, but I haven't figured out a way to catch fish off my couch yet! I'm hoping Wilderness will come up with something like this soon.

Kevin, that is a lovely kayak!

What lake are you on in the photo? It looks a bit like Wheeler Branch with the pavilion in the background, yet different.

If you are out of Ft. Worth, that'd be one of the best lakes to spend a day on your new vessel: nice fishery, clear water, etc. And, it has plenty of variety: deep open water, coves and points, a small island, a woody area back in one creek channel, and more.

A nice collection of friendly kayakers down there, too, most weekends.

Sure hope the weather is as nice this coming weekend as it was this past one.

Brad that actually was Wheeler Branch, we went to go check it out since we had never been. It's an awesome little lake, I don't think I have been on water that clear ever, I was watching bass in the grass 9ft down.

cheers Congrats Kevin! They are awesome yaks and I'll be getting one soon. Just not sure which of my other yaks I want to part with. wife says that 5 kayaks is too many so one has to go. We've always said that there is no kayak that is perfect in every way so maybe that's why I have 4 kayaks now. That being said this kayak can replace my Ride and my Commander with it's stability and open water ability. When the peddles come out it could replace my Hobie. A kayak that has peddles and it paddles better than a lot of paddle kayaks would be great. They've done really good in the design of this kayak.

Love the ATAK! I paddled one at Mariner about 2-3 weeks ago and its, by far, the best combination of everything I've paddled. No yak is perfect for everyone, but this thing has tons of storage, built in gear tracks, a pod that allows you to mount your FF without drilling..it can also be changed out for a pedal drive (coming soon) or a TM. The stability is insane - up there with a Nucanoe - I was walking on the bow / stern...sitting on the gunnels. The seat position can be adjusted on the lake and even has a reclining position.

Sorry..I get a little excited.

Upchurch - Great set up. I'll be joining you here in a a few weeks as an ATAK owner.

I get a excited too, this boat is awesome! I agree that there is no perfect boat for everyone, but I feel like this boat is as close to perfect for me as it gets.
