HDS-5 on a kayak help

HDS-5 on a kayak help - 07/18/15 07:42 PM

I have an HDS 5 that I had on my bass boat and have recently gotten into kayak fishing and was wantiny to know my options to power the thing. I know the simple answer is throw a 12v marine battery in there and go.....

However I have a jackson Cuda 14, with a 375 lb capacity, and I don't miss many meals my wife cooks. I weigh about 240, and with all my fishing gear now it still fishes great for me with room to spare, but I'm worried a 50lb battery may compromise things.

What battery set ups are you guys utilizing?

I use a a small 12v 7 ah battery with my HDS 5. It lasts me a full day on the water. They run $20+

Is that like a deer feeder battery? About 8-10" long 2-3" wide?

firstly, welcome to kayak fishing and the group here!

there is a wealth of knowledge here and many great posts in the 'rigging' sub-forum of the kayak section. lots of ideas on how to set up a battery box, mount transducer and run wires. you can read through the threads or start your own and see what info shows up smile

congrats on obtaining a great yak and sweet fish finder, you should have a blast on the water!
