academy has perception scouts on clearance - 01/25/15 05:58 PM

Maybe old news but just left the academy in denton and saw that the scouts are priced at $299. They are out in denton but maybe some of the other locations still have some. I've never owned or paddled one but they have always looked good to me. Keep in mind they do not have scuppers, kinda canoe like I guess fits the description.

If this is the one, it's not a bad looking rig at a great price for someone wanting to get on the water.
Looks like a scupper in the rear well?

Yeah that's the one. It may have scuppers in the tankwell but in the cockpit area there are none, just the indentions where they should be.

I bought the last one at the Waco store several months ago for $299.98 plus 20% off (was an employee at the time) it is a very nice yak for the money, it tracks well and is plenty stable. It has no scupper holes anywhere on it which makes it a great cold water yak. Just bring a big sponge with you for spring time incase it rains. But overall it's a very good yak. For $299 you can't go wrong, regular price was $469.99.

I had one of those and it was a great yak. the only issue I had with it was no scuppers.

Just almost bought one a few years ago but opted for a 10ft pescador instead, I mostly fish creeks and figured that no scuppers might be a good thing. With the pescador loaded i had water coming up thru the scuppers all the time and kept the plugs in nearly all the time. Now with my OK tetra 12 loaded with the exact same stuff I do not have that issue, I keep the plugs in under the seat to keep my butt dry(just in case) but the other holes stay open and drain like it's supposed to. Not knocking the pescador, I know I carry too much stuff. I guess the point I am trying to make is that the scout would have probably worked for me just fine and saved me some money in the long run. However, I do like my OK!

I went to the white settlement acadamy today. They told me the closest store that had any was in San ant.

That actually looks like the perfect kayak for the brazos river near my house. Huge tank wells for camping gear, cheap so no worries dragging it up and down steep banks or rocky sand bars.

The no scuppers isn't a big deal. (unless you want to use it in the surf) Every kayak I've owned I've used scupper plugs. Get yourself one of those big sponges from Lowe's and your good to go.
