Cold day on the River. Monday 11/25

Cold day on the River. Monday 11/25 - 11/27/13 04:45 PM

My sister who is an outdoorswoman from Jackson, WY was in town and I wanted to take her on a Brazos river trip. I hooked up (pun intended) with Shane to make sure she would get the proper experience. When the forcast took a nosedive I knew she, being from Jackson, was the only one I knew who wouldn't think twice.

She horsed this one out of a laydown like a pro...

The cats didn't think it was to cold...

Triple...

There were several other nice blues and channels caught that I don't have pics of yet. The 36 incher above was the largest of the day.

My sister has become an avid fly fisher up in Wyoming but I was hoping to show her how we do it down home. By the end of the day she couldn't wait to send the photos to all her guide friends up north. Truth be told I can't wait to get back up there for some yellowstone cutthroats myself but at the end of the day nothing beats the Brazos in my book.

Very, very cool man! Shane is a great way to guarantee a good trip.

I have to say, with how cold it's been and seeing that rain in the background of the catfish pic... I'd say your sister's got bigger cajones than yours truly. rolfmao flehan

You need to get down there Joe. The bass were fairly lethargic but fished slow we all saw some action. Cats were off the charts.

Like the picks. Not too often to see a brother / sister outing posted here. You've got a cool sister to eagerly brave that cold weather :-)

Very cool post, Federale. Glad your sister got to spend the day on the river. No better way to ensure a good day on the river than to hook up with Shane.

Thanks y'all. This trip came just in time. Just found out I will be a first time father in about 7 months so will probably have to slow down the fishing for a while.

Not out of the game completely tho. I have focused on fishing the river (upper and middle) almost exclusively this year. Watching Shane reminds me I have a lot to learn. I look forward to broadening my horizons and working on the "fundamentals" that can be applied no matter the water body.

Jerry, it's not lost on me what you guys can do...I just have a hard time purposely handicapping myself any more than I already am. Y'all have my respect.

It's no handicap once you learn that it's no different than conventional tackle. It's that "fly fishing is for trout" thing that handicaps folks. Fly fishing is "fishing"!!!
