Native Slayer or Ultimate Solo Angler

Native Slayer or Ultimate Solo Angler - 04/29/13 02:22 AM

Hello Fellows,

I am making plans to buy a Kayak for both fishing and waterfowl hunting, small water such as bayous, sloughs, and back waters mostly.

I have narrowed it down to two types of Native kayaks.

Slayer 14.5 or Ultimate 14.5 Solo Angler

Curious to know your thoughts. Thanks

I would say that the Ultimate would be the better for hunting. Those are both great boats. The Slayer would be better in larger bodies of water but it sounds like the Ultimate fits your needs a bit better. Shoot me a PM if you want to check out either boat. thumb

Good luck! I have both in 12's and love them both. I don't hunt but for fishing I think I would choose the slayer. The deck is more open on the slayer however the ride is wetter. Both are very stable. Have you paddle them yet?

SLAYER. just make sure you get the scupper plugs for the front storage area with your purchase.

i tried both at a demo and i liked the slayer better.
the jackson cuda 14 blows them out of the water (for me anyway) the cuda 14 just seems to glide forever and it tracks great.

the cuda 14 is $1300

For what your describing you should look at the kc kayaks. They are made for back water and duck hunting

I know the Ultimate has a blind system you can buy for it, not so sure about the Slayer. I have the Ultimate and have had for 4.5 years, can't ask for a better seat than Native IMO and the ultimate is the flag ship for this movement with them. I have not paddled the slayer extensively but my opinion on it is to wait and see if they improve access inside the hull for storage and rigging.

I have my loaded ultimate up for sale but it sounds like more boat than you may be looking for if you are interested look here.

I'll have some thoughts up later today on my blog about the Slayer which might be helpful. It wont be a full review but it will give a few insights.

What do you mean by the slayer being more open than the ultimate?

My Dad and I recently purchased two Native Slayer 14.5 kayaks both in camo color. So far this year we have fished Fork, Raybob and Coffee Mill with them and both kayaks fish great. They are very stable, offer lots of room for storing your gear, the high seat is comfortable and they handle well on the water. My only complaint about the slayer 14.5 is that its very heavy and the attached wheel sucks. My dad and I hunt ducks out of our kayaks as well. Before owning the Native Slayers we had Ocean kayaks and we would take them to Raybob, Texoma and even Lake Fork to hunt ducks.

The slayer deck is flat with little other than a cup holder in front of the seat. The ultimate is too but you have the tunnel hull that narrows the space right in front of you.
