Ocean kayak drifter? - 06/26/12 02:37 AM

Does anyone use the Ocean kayak drifter angler? I am wanting to get my first kayak and found a good deal on them just wanting some feedback before I buy one. The deal is at Academy they have them on sale for $299. Thanks!

For $299, it's a deal. Performance wise it's very stable, has good rocker to help ride up choppy waters, tracks pretty good, but it's not the quickest (efficient)vkayak on the market. Really the only two things I don't like about Drifters are the molded footwells and the relatively small tankwell and those are personal opinions. If you're paddling coves on lakes, smaller lakes, and rivers you can't go wrong with it.

I have a drifter and I really enjoy fishing out of it. It is very stable, but like Neumie said it isn't the fastest boat on the water. The only gripe that I have with the Drifter is that the rear tankwell is too small for a milk crate.

Great yak & a Super Price! It is a wet ride. expect that your tail will be in the water (great in the summer). i solve this problem in the winter by sitting on a cushion. Everything else mentioned above is correct IMO. They are stable & have smaller tank wells than most Angler yaks. This can be over come with some rigging. They sure handle the rough water well. Also the Drifter yaks sit lower in the water than other Angler yaks. The is nice when the winds get up & your anchored. If you buy @ Academy ask them for the seat (they might give you one) & buy you some side handles (dont think it will come with em).
