Not to sound like a jerk, this same topic has been gone over countless times. A search of topics in the search bar can prevent topics being covered 50,000 times. That said, i layer up under the cheepest breathable waiders and use a frog toggs rain jacket under my pfd.

Wear a PFD.
Wear polyester fleece and wool. Dress in layers.
Avoid cotton - no jeans. No cotton underwear. No cotton socks.
Keep your feet warm and dry with waders, NRS Boundary water boots or some sort of dry sock.
Keep a second set of dry clothes in your vehicle if nearby or in your kayak dry hatch.

Yep and wear layers. Breathable waders are a must for me. I won't wear neoprene waders period. I do wear a pair of wading boots over my waders.

Welcome to the sport! It's a challenging but fun sport.

The following thread has some good information and my post has links to some other threads which talk about dressing for the cold.

Stay safe and dress not just to stay warm while kayaking but to hopefully survive in case you take a spill.
It gets pretty cold out on the water with a little wind and some dripping from the paddle, getting splashed or reaching into the water.
Really cools off fast when the sun sets.

Also stay pretty close to shore in the cold weather or when the water is cold.
Remember just because it seems warm outside, the water is now cold enough to be a problem.

Welcome, I know you are going to love it.

I second not wearing cotton, it gets wet, stays wet, and makes you cold

Why no neoprene Waders! I went trout fishing last winter on a day that the high was about 37. My guide and my fishing buddy both ahd breathable waders and their feet got cold. I had neoprene and had no problems.

Just wondering. I have both but use the neoprene when its cold and the breathable ones in warmer weather.

Just make sure you are dressed to swim and have a dry bag with all your safety gear.

On second thought, at my age, I probably have no business out on the lake in my kayak in winter.

Waders or water resistant paddle clothing b/c you'll get water on you.
I also prepare some sort of safety gear for when I capsize in cold water : towel in the hatch, a few packs of hot-hands.
