Where yall heading this weekend 10th/11th? - 03/07/18 01:43 AM

Trying to decide where to take my revo 11 for the weekend... Haven't gotten it fishy yet, but this weekend its time... Water should be settled more by then, and I'm ready to go catchin! Now I just have the overwhelming task of choosing between countless DFW area water bodies... Joe Pool has been turning out some nice fish, and Lewisville is usually decent to me when flooded... Hubbard was stingy to me and everyone I met in passing last weekend, and Lavon parks were all closed off. Texoma is good to me when it doesn't try to kill me, and smallmouth are fun but hard on tackle if you get into the good 4lbers...

Where is everyone else heading? Sharelunkers popping out of Marine Creek are exciting but that lake has skunked me so bad in the past I don't think I can risk it... Mountain Creek always tempts me but I have to pass too many other good lakes up to head there so I never have fishe it... And most of the smaller lakes are really rough this flooded, as fun as seeing the spillway on your graph at Southlake is roflmao

I've got half a mind to plan a Squaw Creek outting but guys running in the fog raises your hair even in a full size boat, it's definitely unnerving to imagine taking the plastic navy out there... Joe Pool may just be the ticket for sore thumbs and the possibility of getting my arm broke by big momma...

I have to be in McKinney on Saturday making my kayak fishing day Sunday.

But, I had a great time at Purtis Creek last Saturday, plan to go back either there again . . . or back several weeks farther, I hit Mill Creek Reservoir in Canton. It is another really good small lake for kayaking. Either of these spots are lots of fun.

Squaw Creek. I love it but have only bank fished it, did that quite frequently, never from a kayak. If I were to go out there, I'd hug the shoreline for sure to avoid the big boats. It's a drag race out there all the time going out and coming back in. Friends bank fished it a week ago, caught 20 or 30 bass, I can't remember, just bank fishing. I believe he said the bite was on for T-Rigs.

If you happen to head a bit east, can wait until Sunday, let me know!

Oh, I'll be going both days not choosing. I gave myself every saturday for the rest of the month off... Depending how the bite is, April may be all 5 day work weeks too! Lol I did 3 different lakes last weekend friday night, saturday night, and sunday morning.

This is why I hate living in Houston. Nothing all that great within an Hour drive. Im either headed to Somerville and up Yegua again, or maybe Fayetteville. I hate the ramp at nails creek, so likely Fayetteville for me.

The grass is always greener
When I search google maps and google earth around Houston; I see endless bay and inshore opportunities
All those lakes between sugar land and lake Jackson

Maybe when I start catching limits from my kayak I'll consider tournaments... I mean... I didnt order the new 26" Ketch board with the trough attachment for nothing I suppose lol

No interest in donating at the moment though, just happy to be getting back on the water regularly again for now.

As for Houston lakes... I bet you have just as many options as us. They don't even have ramps half the places I fish lol. Look up soil conservation sites in your area and find publicly accessible ones and go kart your kayak up to the water and slide in! At least you get pine trees... DFW area lakes make me miss east Texas too much. Just not enough nature. It's amazing how you can be on a 25k surface acre lake and feel like you're in the middle of downtown Dallas still...

Houston would be good for inshore, bay fishing, BTB being near at hand . . . but freshwater lakes? Not so much compared to east Texas.

If someone develops a list for Houston, let me know as I am down there all the time.

From my home: Lake Athens = 200 feet (ha!), Purtis Creek = 22 miles, Mill Creek Reservoir = 30 miles, Cedar Creek, 30 miles, Palestine = 15 miles, Richland Chambers = 25 miles, Fairfield = 50 miles, Neches River = 20 miles, Lake Fork = 50 miles, Tawakoni = 50 miles . . . Tyler lakes, lakes in Waxahachie . . and on and on and on.

There are few places in the entire U.S.A with as many fishing lakes as east Texas. Go south a bit: Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn . . . and another bunch of great lakes continue the trend.

I went out today too. Lake bonham was windy and unkind. I'd never been before and with the weekend to fish it, and more wind coming, decided before hand to explore and paddle out all the way to the bridge on the west end and will not be revisiting any of that water this weekend for sure. So the good news is I elimimated a few miles of unproductive water... And changed gears for tomorrow so I can hopefully meet a Bonham bass. With any luck by Sunday I'll have the skunk washed back off my boat as a reward for my sore butt
