If gas drops a few more cents per gallon, I may waste some to drive there and check on it - and it's a mere 50 miles for me. It's the sorriest power plant lake I've been on in 3 states.....no way would I drive from Lumberton to fish there. I know quite a few guys who drive further to fish elsewhere like I do - we think that much of Gibbons Creek. Twenty years ago it was not nearly as bad as many view it now.

Wow....never thought i would hear such negative about a lake. Not the responses i was expecting. I am always up for some new lakes. Last year i added a new lake to my bank called pinkston and heard more bad than good and i caught a lot of fish there both times. I have fished sheldon twice now and only pulled out three fish. I have also traveled to naconiche and enjoyed that lake too. I mostly fish the angelina and never come away empty handed. Its just the corps has been generating a lot and the moving water makes it hard to stay in a spot. Alot of peope skip angelina river and fish rayburn. I say the opposite. I have also fished lake nacogdoches. Fun lake too.

Where is the heated discharge on the lake. Is it on the west side? I see several areas on the map where there are off limit ropes

if your looking at the power plant the intake will be obvious
there is a long canal that runs about 1/4 up the lake kinda ne from plant
thats the discharge but its kinda hidden
its not as obvious as fayette
look on google maps and you will see the canal

going back to sheldon this eve myself
tired of chasing all over the place when i can catch em in my back yard !

Don't believe everything you read on here. Sometimes you need to verify things for yourself.

thats why they call it fishing -------
all you can do is show up and fish to the best of your ability
right place / right time has everything to do with it
you can have a great / crappy day on any body of water mentioned on this forum
i have fished with people many times and watched them catch a bunch and caught nada - or vice versa
long story short -- fishing is not so much about what you are doing -- its about what you are not doing !
