Sabine River 10/7 - 10/08/15 01:54 AM
Fished Sabine river today from 10:30am-4pm with great results. Launched at Orange city ramp and ran north about 2 miles above IH10. Started shallow around cypress trees and grass with no bites. Bass were very active in main river channel chasing bait so I starting fishing any current break with a small crankbait and T/R worm. The fish were herding bait against points, grass, stumps, and bridge pilings. I spent all day catching bass with this pattern but tried lots of different lures and colors. The best was a small chrome crankbait and watermelon/red finesse wacky worm. Most of the bass were 10"-12" but a few were over 14" and pulled hard in the current. Also, I used light spinning tackle with 6lb mono. Best day I've had in a long time boating 100+ bass from one area. I returned all bass alive to the river to fight another day and left them biting as I headed to the ramp.
