Water levels on Amistad and Choke.

Water levels on Amistad and Choke. - 01/31/18 03:27 PM

I'm trying to plan a week long trip the first week in March. I've familiar with Choke canyon and Amistad lakes but it's been over 5 years since I made the last trip. What are the water levels like and the general condition of the southern lakes? I like to catch big numbers and I'm always looking for a chance at huge fish. If you have a better suggestion I'm all ears.

Hello.. I just left Amistad. It’s 50/50 right now but March will be good. Falcon is about to explode and will be prime in March. Interested In a guide or have questions feel free to call... No word on Choke. Thanks, Stan

Choke is almost 25 feet low.

if and when the day comes that choke fills up, bring your chainsaws. It's gonna get stupid.

It will be like a brand new lake.
At least folks in south Texas will have something to look forward to, as I doubt there will be any more new lakes in the near future.

I would not take a week long vacation to fish Choke Canyon right now. If it's only between there and Amistad, I would go to Amistad. But if I had a week to fish, I would go to Falcon. My 2 pennies.

Can you even imagine the broken hearts that ensue with the bass getting off in the thickets of brush! It will be an absolute snake infested bass haven and I hope I get to experience it before I get old.

Great info, I appreciate the help. If you were going to book a place on Amistad where would be the best to stay? A decent bed, a place to plug in the charger, and relatively secure is what I would want. I tried to call Velvick's place and the number I used said it was disconnected.

All the hotels around the lake are closed and the fishing is horrible at Amistad right now. Go to Falcon and make your week worth the time.

Just had a club tournament on Choke over the weekend and although the lake was down the fishing was pretty good. They still live there. Big fish for our tournament was a 5.70 and there were many 3 to 4lb fish that were weighed in.

Fished in the hurricane winds today on Choke and did ok, 15 ish fish up to 4lbs. The lake is looking sad with the water continuing to drop. Most if not all of the hydrilla is gone now.

How shallow is it getting coming out of calliham and is the concrete stand/tower showing yet in front of calliham point?

I don’t see a concrete stand, just some metal thing that’s high and dry.

The concrete thing is getting close then, wish I would have taken a picture of it. It’s a lower unit removing, hull punching nightmare beast!

American camp grounds has bunk houses, pretty cheap and can sleep several. I'm sure they are the best.
