Terrell City Lake

Terrell City Lake - 01/31/16 09:39 PM

Took a while to find it but its out there just a few miles off the old Hwy 80. The one that runs thru Terrell, Wills Point etc. Can't get any info from the city regarding public access. There is a boat ramp built by the city but its now inaccessible except by crossing a private drive. The folks that block access to the ramp won't allow anyone to cross their property. In effect, its their private lake even though the city built it and owns it. Something stinks about this? Anyone have any verifiable facts as to what's up?

Locally it's known as Lake Elmo, or Elmo lake.

So how did this private sale prevent 'vandals' from striking again and where are the police reports to the insurance co. for remunerations ? Who ever did the the selling of public land did they file proper notice of the pending sale? Who is related to who in these arm length transactions? Fire that Mayor.

Many years ago, it was a great public bass lake. We called it the mudhole.

That was a neat lake. It was loaded with 4 lb bass, big cats and an unbelievable # of snakes and lily pads.

Corruption in gov't at federal, state and local levels is rampant. The political class sell favors to the privileged class in order for the privileged to increase their wealth and power. In turn the political class uses the money to increase the size of the entitlement class which will vote for the elitist politicians who give them money and status over the working middle class. Its called an administrative state and its replaced the constitutional government that once was the law of the land. Constitutional gov't favored liberty, freedom, equality, personal responsibility and justice. The administrative state will make slaves of us all....beholding to the mercy of the elitists for everything you'll ever have from birth to death. Pity this poor country. Render unto Caesar what is Caesars and to God what is Gods.

Was the current Mayor the Mayor twenty years ago when the City sold the lake and land?
You have so many questions. Go file an open records request for all the notes from twenty years ago and see what you can find out before you try and start a lynch mob.

PondFish, I did my due diligence over here in Florida. If you Texans want what you paid for with blood and sweat to just become somebodies private pond, that is on you. Dan

Just more local government corruption. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. There is also a lake east of cedar creek lake at the end of caney creek with some nice flood gates that is listed on the Texas Parks and Wildlife list of public boat ramps that has been private for a few years now. We the people need to start raising hell about so much of our public lands being sold out. It is so sad to see posted signs all over some of the places I hunted and fished as a kid. Greed and corruption go hand in hand.

It looks like last Fall the private "owners" may get the gvt/taxpayers to do some upkeep work for them on the lake they wont allow the public to fish?

Terrell has corrupt gov't. always has. Back in the day Hwy 80 thru Terrell was a speed trap right out of a Hollywood movie. Write a ticket and haul the "speeder" straight to the judge...pay now or got to jail! Most everything changes but some things just remain the same. The city wants gov't taxpayer money to help with their "private" lake. Entitlement mentality runs Terrell...give us something for free...you gotta have something for us...otherwise why are we here? They should look at Canton City Lake (Mill Creek)or any state park lake as a model for self help. Open the lake to the public...put limits on the catch size and rate...sell permits to fish on the lake...limit the number of boats on the lake at one time. Maybe get really self reliant and open a public park on the lake...complete with picnic tables and iron grills...even a boat dock!!! Nah! its better to stick your hand out and ask for something free, isn't it? Pretty disgusting story all round...somebody is a crook...follow the money and find the problem.
