Where would a guy start looking for information on building a good fishing pond , any suggestions

You have many resources at your finger tips. The NRCS has information on pond building, local dirt movers-experienced in pond excavation, and book named perfect pond want one (written by Bob Lusk) are all good starting points.

Secondly depend on species you want will depend on type of pond, structure, and size (also influenced by size of your watershed). The more information you give the builder the better idea he has to help you build. T

Here's a start... Most important ask many questions

Define your goals, the amount of $ you can really afford to spend, what limitations you can accept and the list goes on.

With a friend/neighbor/acquaintance/somebody that has a good fishing pond. Best bet is to see as many as you can so you can begin to get an idea of what you want from your pond.

There are a lot of companies that help design, build and manage ponds for all kinds of things, especially fishing.

The local county agent (Texas Agrilife) can be a good starting place. Private consultants with experience in your area would also be a very good place to get solid advice.

Among the best of sources of good information would be the local private fish hatchery. Many are members of TAA (Texas Aquaculture Association) that publishes a list of fish farms and consultants.

Reaper, one thing to remember. Lots of difference in a dozer driver and a pond builder.

I have no idea what this is about. I think this is suppose to be humorous?

One thing to consider, unless you have an unlimited budget, is the bigger the pond, the more it will cost to manage. Stocking rates, gallons of liquid fertilizer, aquatic herbacides, etc.
