Hey all!

A question for all the college fishing veterans; based on your college fishing experience, what advice would you give to all the incoming freshman fishing team members?

Also, If you are looking to attend a school that has a fishing team, go check out a new article I just posted. Follow the link below and let me know what you think!

Thanks!

I would advise you to focus on your schooling while in college fishing. There were a lot of guys who thought they were the next KvD and would blow off schooling trying to make it big fishing the college tournaments. More than likely, your degree is going to determine your path after college and fishing will just be something that you love to do.

On the fishing side of things, I would recommend starting as a co-angler. Although you may end up with some crappy boaters, there are a lot that can teach different techniques and strategies on how to break down a lake.

Some good advice above. Being a smaller school, I was a boater my freshman year. I will say that every college trail, BASS, FLW and Boat U.S. do everything they can to help and are very well run events. You have to qualify for FLW and BASS championships, Boat US is dependent on how many tournaments you fish.

Stay on top of your classes like stated above. Fish will always be there, so will school, but school is actually more expensive believe it or not.

Not every angler is a pro, at fishing and driving a boat. I'm not saying I am a saint, but some things you see at take off can be pretty mind blowing on how some of us drive.

Always stay in good ties with administration at the school you attend. They can/will be a big help on making decisions for the club or someone to get advice from.

If the school you attend does not have a fishing team, make one. I've only heard of 1 school turning down a fishing program and that was in High School!
