Need suggestions for smallmouth trip - 07/12/17 01:42 AM
I want to take my wife on a fishing trip, for her sake, in cooler temps. I usually fish Amistad or Falcon. Any suggestion on a good smallmouth lake, maybe Arkansas or Missouri?

I would love to see Minnesota, but I am dragging my boat and need to keep it to a 2 day drive. Any other suggestions?

Lake Murray up by Ardmore is full of smallmouth but it will be anything but cool.

According to some on here, TX is chocked full of 5 pounders. Just pick a lake and go hammer them.

We caught quite a few on Table Rock... spots and smallies. Pete Wenners has a weekly fishing report for the lake on YouTube so you can narrow down on a pattern you want to fish. Doubt it will be a great deal cooler though.

Dale Hollow in Tennessee is very nice though I'm not sure how hot it'll be. I just spent a week fishing in Tennessee with my son. I'm from there so I'm a little biased. We fished Center Hill but Dale Hollow is great for smallmouth. We had planned to fish Dale Hollow but my parents live closer to Center Hill so ended not going.
My son's friend caught his very first smallmouth, weighed a little over 4 pounds. They caught quite a few small mouth, I couldn't catch one to save my life. We had a great time; caught smallies, largemouth, and spotted all in the same day. My son's friend caught a walleye also.

If you go to Table Rock you can also put in on Tanneycomo and trout fish some if that interests you... its right below TR dam and is fed by water from bottom of TR so it is 50° or so and helps to make ambient temp feel a bit cooler

Its 68 here in CO right now and going down to 59 tonight. But the only good fishing we have is for Lakers and walleye.

Why so much hate for MN?
Honestly it isn't very cool up here right now. It's going to be humid and upper 80's most likely...no Somalis where I live but plenty of brown carp nobody fishes for, most wouldn't mind if u cut them up and took them home w ya either, enjoy.

Northern Michigan. Yea it's a drive, yadda yadda... but if you want to catch smallies, go.
This is the 3rd year my dad and I have gone up there and we whack 'em. We had 27+ lbs in our best 5 one day this year and I don't think we caught less than 20 fish any day we were there. Last year we had a bonafide 80-100 fish day.

Upper 80s, we'd have to bring winter gear. That's cold to us.

I would think , if your in south tx , fly up north , hire a guide , would be a better option . A house boat type trip , with a outfitter sounds like a blast to me , they provide the eats , boats , gear , and a place to stay , plus they know where the fish are !
