Caught this little guy on Ray Roberts while crappie fishing with my neighbor, Sunday morning.
Neither of us are sure what it is.

It's a skinny, small crappie but maybe I'm wrong...

I believe y'all are right.
Caught one of these on Eagle Mountain last weekend and wasn't sure what it was either, thanks for the pic and clarification.
Warmouth for sure. Similar to green sunfish. Both crazy aggressive

Warmouth, caught one two weekends in a row off the same small patch of grass on an 8" lizard.

Goggle-eye. My father called 'em that. He would know, as he was the best fisherman I ever knew.

Rock bass & warmouth I though were the same. Might be like a Texas perch. Lol

TPWD agrees, "Warmouth are somewhat larger than either rock bass or green sunfish (with which it is often confused)...Warmouth have 3 spines in the anal fin..."

I realize that but they have "Rock bass" listed as another name for Warmouth.

Some place....somewhere...a female crappie is trying to explain to her husband why his children look like bass...
They do get bigger on Athens!

I've always called this a Goggle Eye as well

First, it is definitely a warmouth.
tssspencer2887 notes something TPWD does and ought to stop doing. Under its "Other Names," it should stop including mis-identifications. Nicknames and regional names, sure, and note such references that they are often called goggle-eyes, etc.
But not by a name where it is just wrong.
Example: Some anglers catch what they believe to be smallmouth bass here in Texas when they are often spotted bass or just odd shaped or colored largemouth bass, we see it here pretty frequently on TFF . . . and other posters point out the mistake.
But, under TPWD's odd logic, a largemouth bass might be called a smallmouth bass under "Other Names."
TPWD doesn't in this case (a mis-odentification) and it shouldn't do it anywhere. It just confuses people.
