How far to far to drive for a day trip...... - 07/07/17 02:42 AM
Just curious as to what you consider is too far to drive for a day trip? For me, its 3 hours tops one way. Luckily this puts me out to Toledo Bend / Big Sam heading east. I have Conroe in my backyard but dang its tough this time of year, and most other times.

My house to Monticello is about 145 miles. That's about as far as I care to drive there and back for a one day trip
Seems like I used to do day trips from Corpus to Falcon, about 2 1/2 hrs each way as I recall. That was about as far as I like to do, really to far.
I don't do the long drive day trips anymore, I bought a place at Rayburn.

Man I gripe about my hour drive to Falcon. I bought a house in Ingleside/Corpus that fished Falcon. I didn't understand why when some great saltwater fishing was 10min from his house. I can see why now but I wouldn't fish Falcon if I lived back close to the coast or at least not often.

A two hour drive to a lake to fish is the easy part. Its the two hour drive home that bites the big one.

IF its over 2 hours one way trip it needs be converted to a 2 day minimum adventure to maximize time on water verses time in vehicle.

Made a 310 mile day trip once. Drove down early that morning, fished all day, turned around and drove 310 miles back after the sun set. Luckily the fishing was great. It wasn't planned to be a one day trip but that's how it worked out and for the right lake at the right time I would do it again.

Yes, this is the hard part for me as well. Thanks for all of the responses as I just wanted to see if I was crazy or not.

About two hours for me, but Texoma is 70 miles from my house, and I still get a room

2 Hrs gives me more options than I need, generally stay within an hour. I guess if I lived out in the West Texas desert I would drive as far as I had too.

3 hours if a tournament is involved, no more than an hour for leisure.
2 hrs each way is max for me and that is only occasionally.
Plus #1.

mine used to be 3 hrs each way , but one time I made the mistake of fishing 14 hours , then trying to drive home hungry and tried . I then stopped off and had a huge hamburger , fires and chocolate shake to wash it all down ---you guessed it , once that food settled , and I am trying to drive home ---I fall asleep at the wheel , only time I have ever done that and I no longer that 3 hour each trip ---especially by myself .

An hour and a half at the most. If my 2 absolute favorite lake weren't 15 miles south and 13 miles north I may sing a different tune. Yeah I live in winnsboro don't take long to figure that out

About an hour and a half one-way is max for me on a day trip, especially during the hot summer months. The heat drains me and I don't want to get too drowsy driving home.
