Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/04/17 04:55 PM

I've been having unbelievable success with this lure,
especially after tweaking how I rig it.
Caught me my new personal best, and several really nice fish.

Check it out smile

Thanks for the info, but how does it work on hard fished public water. I'd like to try some of my multi- decades old grape Fliptail worms on that water. smile

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/04/17 06:39 PM

During my last tournament on Lake whitney, I caught a bag of 5 lbrs on it.
Went up a creek with a bass boat fishing the ABA next to me. Really kind gentleman. I'd like to connect with him on here.
We fished alongside each other dissecting the creek.
I was fishing the 5" he was fishing a similar color senko.
I caught an 18", 16.5", on the 5" on the way in,
Then turned around and worked the 4" on my way out and landed a 19.75" bruiser on my way out.
There were 3 tournaments that day.
Several boats flipped that creek, and I caught the 19.75 in a spot that saw several presentations.
Had a buddy using a swimjig in the same exact spot, the boat used a senko and worm there too.

Hence, I learned that when the pressure is on, just downsize the bait. Big fish won't suspect it.

Who has ever thought about downsizing when the bite is tough......oh yeah...that has been known for a loooooooong time!

You said you caught a bag of 5 lbrs. But the lengths you posted aren't close to 5.

Sorry for rounding up my 4.5s and 4.7s
I'll post pics of them fish when I get back, if you've ever caught healthy fish on Whitney, they're rounder than they are long. .
Some of you guys are powerful trolls, not sure how old you are, but when someone tries to contribute to your fishing positively you should appreciate it.
I'm just addressing the downsize comment and dumbee over there.

Classic Whitney sub 20" 4.72lbs

The fish I mentioned in the response where part of the bag, not the entire bag.
I was giving an example of how the lure performs in a pressured environment.

Sorry YackMan. Didnt mean to troll. It was a good video and I said so. I did want to know how it worked on public fish.

Thanks again for your follow up info.

I think you should repost that video though under the title, "How to land big bass without a net" however. wink

Lol Eyeball, now that's funny!

I wasn't referencing your post as trolling. Your question was absolutely valid!
I was referring to others,
Thanks for the positive feedback!

Never tried the caffeine shad on a weighted swimbait hook. Usually just leave it weightless and work it quick in the summer and deadstick in the winter. Might have to try it out, thanks for posting the vid.

Can't wait for your vid on best topwater. Did you know you could tweak a buzz bait to fish on top of the water?

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/06/17 01:50 PM

Thanks for the kind words all!

Outfishdya;
I typically rig my buzz baits on a C-rig.

I plan on doing a lunkerhunt link vs stutterstep next time out.

True statement about Whitney's footballs, I've never seen another lake like it when you compare lengths to weight!

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/07/17 11:22 PM

I started using that bait early last year and I have 2 rods with that bait at all times. I use it way more than any other soft plastics. Very versatile bait.
Works on Texoma Smallmouth as well.

Ok I'm stupid and missed it, what bait was it?

It's lame click bait to make the claim in the subject line and then make someone watch your video to get the punch line.

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/08/17 03:58 AM

I didn't think it was click bait. Good video; I'll keep an eye out for more of your videos

Nice video - been looking for these plastics. Do you like these more than the Zoom Super Fluke? I have those hooks, but what jig head do you recommend?

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/10/17 01:35 PM

Trickster, I went to Texoma saturday, had a hard time, i'd like to join you sometime smile

TX Senko, These put the super fluke to shame.
The wobble on the tail on these is amazing, they also weigh dang near 1/2oz just as a plastic, so the fall rate is higher. Combined with the weighted keel they kill.

For the clickbait claim, It's really not clickbait.. I do give more information than I'd like to in the video. But it's for a good cause

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/10/17 04:27 PM

I ordered some last night. Excited to try them out soon

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/11/17 03:59 PM

Crankalot, hope they work for you man!
Favorite colors are Smoking Shad, and Baby bass, the pearl in 4" works dang good too.
Make sure to use a weighted keel hook.

I will order them too. Thanks!

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/12/17 05:23 PM

Yakman: how do you fish it? As in what style of retrieve?
Posted By: Lmiller157

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/12/17 10:04 PM

IF you fish them with a weighted keel hook, do you still twitch the bait?
Posted By: YakManPro

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/13/17 02:29 PM

Honestly, it's so versatile you can do so much with it.

I typically cast it out or preferably skip it, and let it hit bottom, count to 5 then bring it up to the surface with a twitch and reel retrieve. Reel it in a few feet then kill it again.
Or twitch it off the bottom, or in the middle of the water column. The fish will tell you where they wana eat it.

Think of it as a medium sinking, weedless, snagless, JERK/TWITCH bait.
I've had fish eat it off the surface, off the bottom and waiting a few seconds, and in the middle of the water column.

Medium rod, with fast action will make a huge difference. But once you dial the bite in for the day, you can fish it on any rod.

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/19/17 02:07 PM

What size do you prefer? 5" or 7"?
Thanks.........
Posted By: YakManPro

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/19/17 02:12 PM

5" on a normal day,
If the pressure is up, and there's several tournaments and multiple boats already ravaged through a spot, then 4"
The gals won't even suspect it.

I think the 7" would be good on El Salto, or on a C-rig

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/19/17 03:00 PM

In my opinion, the Zoom Fluke is still by far a way better bait, and will get you way more bites if fished right.
Posted By: YakManPro

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/19/17 06:00 PM

Sinkey,
I challenge you to a duel,
You pick the lake, if you have a boat I'll join you on your boat, if not I'll supply you with a kayak.
We can test which bait is better

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/19/17 06:40 PM

While fishing our ABA championship on Whitney I watched a kayak fisherman catch 3 to my 1 doing this. I was throwing a senko. I could not believe it and hard-headed me just kept on doing what I was doing.

Re: Possibly the best bass soft plastic? - 07/19/17 08:41 PM

Popcork,
That was me, here's my kicker that I pulled on our way out of that creek with around 30mins on the clock.

I just shaved the beard (gf request), and used my other yak for the video.
I'm glad to connect with you again, it was a real pleasure fishing alongside you!

I'd definitely like to fish with you sometime smile
