A much needed good day on Ray Roberts - 06/27/17 04:29 AM
Hadn't had the boat out but once all spring and summer, but finally got a window to head to Ray Roberts with a friend yesterday afternoon. Only my 2nd time fishing the lake, and I did SO much better than the first time. It was almost worth the lambasting I got from my wife when I rolled up to the driveway at 10 PM.
Ended up with 7 Largemouth, 1 Channel Cat, and about 25 dink sandbass. Biggest bass was about 3.5 - 4 lbs and 20 inches long, 2nd biggest was about 17 inches. Caught the big one on a shakeyhead rigged with a purple fluke, right off those steep bluffs/rocks near the east side of the dam, and caught the other nice at the dam rip-rap one on a watermelon baby brush-hog. We ran across an acre of surface schooling sandies on the way to the ramp, caught them on topwaters until the sun was about to go down. What a great day.... Can't wait to really figure out my new favorite lake!
