I use 20oz but BPS sells 16oz specifically for bunks so I'm guessing they've had success with it. If you just have a worn spot on your bunk it might be your board is warped and the hull is rubbing hard against that one spot.

I use the outdoor carpet at home depot, I put an extra layer under the wrap. Make sure to get treated wood vs untreated wood lol.

I went away from carpeted bunks a few years ago opting for the bunk slicks. In my case I actually made my slicks from 1/2" Starboard. I quit carpet for two reasons:

1. They hold water and I found the wood underneath rotting out every 2-3 years even though I used treated lumber. The high humidity+temp allowed fungus to flourish and destroy the bunks.
2. With all the new restrictions due to Zebra mussels I thought it a bit odd that I could dry my boat, empty my live wells and all bilge water but when I left the lake I still had wet carpet probably containing Zebra mussel larvae. Depending on weather the bunks could take several days to dry and I usually fish at least twice a week so I technically shouldn't change lakes with the bunks still wet.

My new bunks are made from pressure treated lumber which I allowed to thoroughly dry before painting and applying my bunk slicks. These bunks dry very quickly so I have no issues changing lakes and this is year 3 with no signs of decay or worn carpet. My hull does not seem to be affected by the slicks and launching/retrieving is much easier.

http://marinecarpeting.com/20-oz-boat-trailer-bunk-carpet-2-pieces-12-x-12-each/ Marinecarpeting.com's 20 oz pre-cut bunk carpet, I've done two trailers with this and it holds up well, just go with the medium gray color, its what they sell the most of and seems to be heavier that some of the odd colors.
