Recommended rain gear?

I'm looking for some recommendations on rain gear. Cabelas's Guidewear and BPS 100mph seem popular but quite pricey.

Also, what are the pros and cons of getting a pair of bibs versus pants?

Cabelas Guidewear for me. If you watch the bargain cave you can get it on sale. I just replaced mine that was 13 years old and really didn't need to except I've gained a few pounds. It is the best $400 I have spent in fishing. Never skimp on rain gear! Bibs get you butt dry when you bend over or when sitting in the seat.

plain ol frog togs work pretty good
kinda nice when you under dress on a cool morning also !

BPS Pro Qualifier. Spray with scotchguard once a year.

For $130 I got the H2O Express bibs and jacket.....LOVE them....I mean LOVE them.....No Scotch guard needed.
Windproof, waterproof, lots of pockets, stretchy where you need it.

The Cabela's Guidewear is on sale right now, 25% off. I have a set of the 2017 version. It's serious rain gear, best purchase for me this year by far. Being windproof and rainproof is so nice running down the lake, makes a huge difference.

I am an avid duck hunter and the nastier it gets out there the better. I'm pretty much the same when it comes to fishing, nasty weather means I get the lake to myself so I'm going to fish in almost anything and there really aren't too many days that turn me away.

Bibs vs. pants is a no brainer to me, bibs. When you are running down the lake and you lean forward to tuck in under the windshield your jacket rides up with the wind. With bibs it doesn't matter you stay dry, even in driving rain. Pants not so much. I have a set of rain pants too but I only use them for a light shower out of convenience.

It is expensive gear but I've been super happy with it and would definitely recommend it.

Frog Toggs, work great and easy on the wallet. Also light enough to not suffocate in the summer, just throw on another base layer in the winter.

I looked at a 100mph suit and couldn't bring myself to drop $500, plus I felt like if it rained during the summer while I was on the water I would be sweating in the suit big time, so I looked at Academy. While the regular blue H2O Xpress Suit looked decent, it was $140 for jacket and bibs. Their upgraded gear is a softshell rain suit which is a darker navy color and regularly runs about $220 but was on sale for $150 for bibs and jacket. I bought a set and have been rained on quite a few times and snowed on once and am amazed by their quality. They are light enough to wear in the summer if needed and roomy enough to bundle up underneath if you get in the snow and serious cold weather. Plus I bought my dad and I each a set for $200 less than one 100mph suit would cost

Either gear with Gortex, or Huk. Both are great stuff.

I hear the Academy H2O gear the best money wise.

Define your parameters of "pricey".

I run Simms now and have had 100mph and H20 in the past and they will not hold a candle to Simms in a all day down poor...they breath very good so summer is not a problem. All depends what your price point is on how good you want to get.

I have the BPS 100mph gear. Bought it this winter, I love it. I upgraded from the H20 set. Here are the differences I can tell you. The gore-Tex makes it truly wind proof, the H20 did well. It not 100% like the 100mph. In an all day downpour I would still get slightly wet, not at all with the 100mph.

I've heard awesome things about the Simms. However, they are double the 100mph. I have also heard good things about the HUK.

I think it all comes down to how much time you will spend in Nasty conditions. If just every now and then, Inwould go with the H20. If you plan on it a lot, I would step up and buy either guide gear or 100mph. If you fish a ton break the bank on the Simms. Whatever you go with, you will get what you pay for.

I've been using BPS100 for a few years now. Very dry, and very durable. I am actually really rough in it and it is still like new. I put the bibs on with my shoes on and stomp them off with my shoes on. Not a single scuff or zipper that's getting rough.

I can highly recommend them. ...and someday when I finally need a new set, it will be the same set.

I got a set of these this winter and have been really happy with them. Worked great on the water and sitting through several ball games too.

I've had the BPS 100mph suit for 10 years and it is finally starting to show some signs of wear. It was a very good suit for a long time!

Had the h20 blues suit for about 3 years now, worn it in heavy rains. In the winter i wear it riding the quad to the blind.

I have been in the Gander Mountain jacket/bibs version for about 2 years and they have never failed me.

I wear Frogg Toggs in the summer and for travel. My Cabela's jacket & bibs have held up for 17ish years now. It's still my winter get-up.

Definitely bibs over pants. When you sit, stand, sit, stand on a soggy boat all day, you'll understand why.

Rain gear is worth every penny you spend on it. BPS, Simms, Cabelas Guidewear, or HUK are the only real options.

I have an almost new set of Huk that I'm going to sell. They are too small for me. Got a set of Frog Toggs for Christmas that will do me until cold weather.

Bibs are must-have. Like others have said, the pants are compromised the second you sit down; bibs stay dry.

Frogg Toggs are good for brief showers during the summer, and I still use them in the summer. But, they suck noodles in a downpour and are minimally effective at stopping the wind. Maybe the more expensive Frogg Toggs are better, but the mid-grade ones I have used are mediocre.

I've used a set of Cabela's Guide Wear for about three years now and they have done very well. They completely stop the wind and you can fish in a downpour all day and stay dry. I'm really sensitive to cold so I got an insulated set and can wear it up to about 55-60 degree air temperature before they become too hot to use, then I switch to the thin Frogg Togg suit. As good as the Guide Wear and 100 MPH suits are, I can't imagine what the SIMMS suits are like, being nearly double the price.

my cabelas guidewear is probably 15 years old and still keeps me dry....in 2010 I made an 18 day/2107 mile river trip in a small aluminum boat and I ran in the rain 13 out of 18 days.... I can't imagine a much tougher test but my guidewear kept me dry....

Try Field Supply. I don't know what they have left, but all of their Frabill stuff is on sale for SUPER CHEAP. I just spent 80$ for the F2 jacket and bibs...regular price would have been $300.
