Lake monticello report and video - 12/01/16 03:52 PM

Posted videos in video forum. But nobody checks that forum so I made a report to go along with my videos. Fished monticello 11/19, 11/23 and 11/26. 11/19 was pre front and we smashed them had 29lb 5oz on best 5 and lost a couple big ones. Most fish caught 7-10am on frogs also landed a 6lber on a 6xd at the railroad bridge. 11/23 was little tougher for me because of the strong south wind. I couldnt get good frog bite so we went to throwing skinny dippers in pads. We caught plenty of 2-3lb fish between 7-12 only had one big bite and she broke my 40b braid. Landen Beckham fish that day as well and sacked over 25lbs on the frog proving once again that he is better frog fishermen than I am. 11/26 was toughest day by far with temps 40-50 all day and a really strong south wind. We managed 10 fish most being 3lbs biggest was 4.5lbs. They still bit the frogs and skinny dippers but I mixed in the Smash Tech Convict for a 4lber and also lost a 8+ that came completely out of the water to inhale my swimbait the second it hit the water. Plenty of big fish left out there! Here are the videos

Looks like a fun time and a great job by you guys, but you may want to think twice about putting those fish in your live wells. It's a slot lake and I can guarantee you none of those fish were longer than 24". There seems to be a rash of "kids" over the last couple of years going out to Monti and keeping slots in their live wells so they can take a great "look at me" pic at the end of the day holding up their best 5 fish.

I know for a fact Heath has written tickets for it and will again.

Absolutely no way to justify keeping slot fish in your livewell for look-at-me pics at the end of the day or for any other reason. Completely illegal to do so.

I appreciate yall thinking I have no idea how to measure a fish...... Your right quite a few high school guys went out last year or year after last and kept allot of 4-6lb slot fish. That fish weighed 7lb 11oz and had zero belly on her and measured 24" on the line. The other fish was about 22.5" and like i stated was in live well only to grab phone and take a picture. It rained allot so everything was stored away in dry box so keeping fish out of water to get the phone was not a good option.

You may know how to measure a fish but apparently you don't understand the law. You cannot place a slot fish in your livewell for your convenience or for any other reason.

I thought all the online video guys always videoed measuring the fish too? smile (Sorry just too easy)

A 24" fish on that lake is 1000X more rare than a 24" fish on Fork. They simply don't live long enough to get that long due to the hot water temps. I fish Monti probably 50+ days a year and have for nearly a decade and have never caught one 24". I have actually measured 2 of them thinking I had actually managed to catch one both were more than a full 1/4" short. I'm sure your's could have been but the videos didn't show it that way.

And I totally get trying to get a phone out for a picture for the other one you are talking about....however still illegal.

Again this isn't a personal bash on you or your friends, it's just the law.

Re: Lake monticello report and video - 12/01/16 10:05 PM

I was going to just say my peace then move on but your responses changed my mind. I absolutely love when people get caught in lies on the internet.

A few details from re-watching the video:

*First fish that went into the live well which was full of water and running was not the 7-11 you said was 24" (also looks like there may have already been another fish in there)
*2nd fish that went in the live well was at a different time and the live well was empty. The live well was turned on then lid closed and an ice chest was put on top of the lid giving the appearance you planned on keep it for a while. And my guess, and its just a hunch, is that if you had caught the rare over, it would have definitely made the video either in someone saying it or in the video of the measurement.
*And Lastly, at the end of the video your buddy is holding up both of your bigger fish which were obviously caught at 2 different times

So maybe this is just all circumstantial and wrong but it's the way it appeared.

Correct circumstantial thanks for watching again though! over was caught first, slot was caught second. I didn't edit them in that order. When I place the 2nd fish in the well you can see the over already in there. IDK what your talking about with the cooler. I don't video every single moment of our days and frankly see no reason to video a measurement or talk about her being an over. Viewers don't care about how long they are just how much they weigh so that's what I include in the video. I had no idea overs are that rare on monti until you mentioned it.

Re: Lake monticello report and video - 12/01/16 10:30 PM

Also your terrible at putting together a story! when the over was caught there is no water in the livewell!! Its bone dry, so how could I have caught the slot fish first?

All for five minutes of fame. Should have never made the video and just had it to yourself.

I simply stated them in the order they appeared in the video which you said was edited. All of what you said makes complete sense except the final picture of your buddy holding both fish at the end with all the rain gear now off. I guess he took all those off for a better picture.

And dude, I complimented your video and your day of fishing and simply cautioned you that you broke a law. Which you did, even if that slot was in the live well for just 10 seconds. Your responses since then seem to be those of someone who's been caught in a lie and is getting defensive.

I've said my piece...carry on and go make another video

Re: Lake monticello report and video - 12/02/16 01:18 AM

Man some people complain about everything. I thought it was a great video and I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like he kept the fish, took them to another lake, made filets out of them.

He was putting them in there to show off a little but after a day like that I don't blame them one bit. But that's just me I guess.

Re: Lake monticello report and video - 12/02/16 04:03 AM

I agree that all this "pointing out" is a little much. Great day, great catches. I know it may be illegal, but I'm glad you put fish in water while you got your phone out

Re: Lake monticello report and video - 12/02/16 08:05 AM

Illegal or not, I would rather have the fish in water while digging for the camera. But, I'm not one to be a big stickler for the letter of the law.

I can remember once when I didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign before taking off again. laugh

Glad you had a good day fishing. Monti can be feast or famine for me.
