Best Smallmouth lake - 11/16/16 09:57 PM
Guys, me and a buddy are wanting to catch some smallies. We haven't ever caught one and it's on our list. Where can we catch some big ones in or close to Texas? I know big might be a relative term when they pump out 5lb plus up north but I really don't know what to expect. I always hear they like the cold better so is winter the best time or some other time? I'm really not looking for spots, baits, etc. I would appreciate any help, but give me
a lake name and I will catch them.

Don't know how far you want to drive but I like Broken Bow Lake (OK) for smallies.

Broken Bow and lake Murray are my favorites. The brownies are lots of fun and good fighters but 5 lb'ers are rare around here.

Lake Belton has some good smallies. Best place for smallies I know of in central Texas.

Lake Cherokee, TN....5-6 pounders aren't uncommon...average SM is 3-3.5 lbs..
