Medina Lake?

Medina Lake? - 11/12/16 03:28 PM

I have a buddy in town and I had planned on taking him to Falcon for some great fishing but since it's supposed to rain down there tomorrow, I guess we are going to hit Medina. Anyone have any suggestions on where to launch and what to catch them on?

I've never been out there before and he has never been bass fishing so just trying to show him a good time. Thank you!

Last year they stocked Medina with over 200.000 fingerlings. You can catch a lot of fish and many will be smaller. For a really good time "catching" downsize your gear just a bit. 8-10lb test and just about anything will work. Green pumpkin is my favorite color. Shad colors too. Worms, grubs, spinners, spinner baits, flukes, squarebills- they will all put fish in the boat.
Small finesse worm on a shaky head work great both shallow and deeper. The water is super clear so keep away from the bank in the shallows. Fish around brush clumps down to about 12 feet.
You have a shot at 100 fish between two people. They will mostly be 13" and smaller but they are chunky, healthy and fight hard.
For launching there are basically three places. Joes Marina, Red Cove, and the county park. Joes and Red charge $15 to launch- Red opens at 7 and Joes opens at 8. Both are close to each other down by the dam. The County Park is at the end of Park Rd 37. They charge $10.

There is a small tournament tomorrow kicking off at Joes at 630. $40/team.

Thank you for the info. Looking forward to fishing it! Looks like I'll be downsizing all my line tonight. I've been hitting Falcon every weekend for the past two months and you can't fish any line under 14lbs down there.

Who is putting on that tourney Rick? I would love to fish in it.

Just like Rickmb said, there are 3 main ramps, I put the addresses below so you can google which is closer to you.

Put on a dropshot with watermelon flukes and you will be setting hooks all day long. Just about any other thing you put in the water will get you bites as well. They are younger, smaller, fish for the most part, but there are still some chunks left in the lake if you can find them and even the 12-14" will give you a solid fight. There are several other reports in a thread on the Fishing Reports section started by Debra as well. I'll be out there tomorrow in a red/gold nitro z7 sport with 2 buddies, say hi if you see me. Good Luck!

Lunker Hunters. We usually fish on Dunlap, Canyon and Placid. It's open to anyone that wants to fish it. First time on Medina.

We left biting fish to go to the weight in. I think we had some bigger fish located but ran out of time.
Oh well, always next time.
Still, we had a blast and the competition is fun.
