True or False: Lake Conroe Night Time Speed Limit?

True or False: Lake Conroe Night Time Speed Limit? - 10/05/16 02:06 AM

Does Lake Conroe have a speed limit after dark? It seems like I've heard of one, but I can't find anything on it. I know there is a no wake rule around the bridges.
The thread about having your life jacket on when the big motor is running got me to thinking. The Big Bass Classic is this weekend and I want to get to my spot, before first light. I don't want to break a rule in the process of getting there. Any info would be appreciated.

Drive to the conditions. There is no need to be doing 50+ in the dark. Get up a little earlier
and get there safe.

I do not think there is a enforced speed limit.

Appreciate the advice, but still wonder, if there is a lake limit. 20 mph might be breaking the law.

This is what I found from SJRA.

"Control of Speed. It is a violation of these Rules for
any Person to:
(1) operate a Vessel on the Reservoir at a speed in excess of a “No
Wake” speed within one hundred feet (100’) of any Private Structure,
Marina or other lakeshore facility or bridge, any moored, anchored or
occupied Vessel, or in an inlet in which people are swimming;
(2) operate a Vessel on the Reservoir at a speed in excess of a “No
Wake” speed within fifty feet (50’) of another Vessel, Personal Watercraft
or water skier (other than a water skier towed by such Vessel); or
(3) operate any Vessel on the Reservoir at a speed in excess of
minimum planing speed (the minimum speed at which a Vessel will achieve
and maintain a level plane) during the period from one half-hour after
sunset to one half-hour before sunrise."

I have driven 15 to 20. Although, there are some guys that just haul arse.

If you want, send me your spots and I will sit on it until you get there... smile

I am going down Thursday or Friday.

Thank you. Number (3) is what I thought I had heard.

I've only been fishing till noon so it will be a guessing game on the afternoon bite for me. Hell, any bite is usually a guessing game for me on that lake. Haha

Good luck this weekend.

No sir. Have to go to Fork to move some more of the missus things down here. Been married since January 1st and we still haven't finished moving her.

Be careful... there was a sunken/submerged house boat this past weekend about 50' yards from shore. It wasn't there the day before so, pay attention. Never know what's in front of you running at night.

There are a few lakes around north Texas with a 35 mph "all watercraft speed limit". Seems kinda like a joke when I'm on the TM and a BassCat comes flying by at over double the limit. Haha.

Last time I ran Conroe at night it was pretty sketchy. All the lights from the homes, docks and businesses reflect off the water and make it difficult for me. You can't tell if it's a boat, shoreline or reflection. LOL

Def. recommend taking it easy at night.

Plus, a lot of inexperienced boaters with big ocean going vessels running around out there too!

Where are you seeing a speed limit on Waxahachie, I fish it all the time and there is nothing posted anywhere. Not sure that is correct.

ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE wax has a limit. It's posted right at each boat ramp.

I'll fish it Sunday afternoon and I'll post up a pic for those that simply ignore all signage at boat ramps.

Edit.....I joke about it at the working mans tourney all the time, because it's a TPWD law that's broken by almost every entry every tourney. And most think "Steez is full of [censored]".... Then they see the sign when I point to it. Haha

I will watch for your post. It's been a long time since i fished it. Everything i can find online says there is no posted limit.

Re: True or False: Lake Conroe Night Time Speed Limit? - 10/08/16 02:43 AM

I fish Conroe but I won't operate my boat after dusk. That's just me. I've witnessed a bunch of near misses, including a couple of my own where I had swerve or slow way down to keep from having a collision. Even with lights, I've seen boats going way too fast for the conditions; crowded, skiers, jetskis, swimmers...

Sunday evening, as I was headed back to my place on Conroe, a guy in a deck boat came out of creek right into my path. He never once looked to see if there were other boaters, never even saw me until his passengers got his attention. By then I had gone dead in the water and was staring him down. He passed in front of me by 200 feet but had I not slowed we might have collided. BTW- neither he nor his passengers, including two kids, were wearing PFD's.

So my point is- why take a chance of hauling buns in low or no light conditions just for a few minutes advantage in a fishing tourney? Why risk it?

Here is the sign that states the speed limit for the lake. They are literally at every boat ramp. I don't know how people fish these lakes and not see the signs.
