Yes. I always start my search shallow. Of course the first 2 hours of daylight is the best time to locate shallow water fish. There are some conditions with lake levels and water conditions that will make them leave. Once you find the best shallow water spots you can count on catching fish there year round and year after year. If they leave when the conditions become unfavorable they will always return when the conditions change.
I try to fish the whole lake to find the best 3 shallow water spots. Once I have found them then I work on the mid range and deep water spots close by. During the heat of the day they will return to the deeper water unless there is heavy grass to support them. For example on Amistad when the grass is 20 ft. plus tall I look no farther.
