Worms or Jigs

O.K. I know this has probably been a wore out topic, but I'm trying to expand my fishing techniques. When do you throw a jig and when do you throw a worm, Are there certain times of the year, water conditions, etc. Just trying to get advice from folks with a little more experience. as usual, thanks for the help.

Both - I have 20 rods ready to go. Most in the rod box; but these are always on deck.
- Worm Rod.
- Jig Rod.
- 2 spinner bait rods.
- Light C-Rig Rod for Brush hogs and Flukes.
- Spook Rod. It seconds as a Cranking Rod.

I agree. I have both ready also. IMO they are basically same technique. I will choose worm in deep water first because that is where my confidence is. I have caught fish on jigs but I seem to get more strikes with worm. If you fish shallow you can throw a jig in there and if you get bit and miss you can pick up a worm and get right back in there and get the fish to strike again.

If you are getting bit on a worm, throw a jig in the same area. You will normally catch a bigger fish on the jig. Most fish on a jig average 4 pounds or better.

I always have a jig tied on, but in the heat of the summer the 10 inch worm generally outperforms the jig for me.

Like everyone said, keep both rigged up and fish both in the same area and to the same cover. Both are good fish catchers so don't limit yourself to just one. Many times I will have 3 jig rods and 5 worm rods on deck. Football head jig, and two different jigs for pitching. Drop shot finesse worm, Tx. rigged worm, shaky head worm,Magnum fluke(weightless) and a C-rig. Then I usually have a couple of rods rigged up with some type of moving bait.

Really depends on how finicky they are behaving. Summertime you want more flash in the tail and/or trailer.
